#UNDER C: DUBAI HILLS MALL

Dubai developer Emaar Properties and holding company Meraas have announced plans for a new 11 million square metre mall at their Dubai Hills Estate community joint venture.

Dubai Hills Mall, located on the intersection of Umm Suqeim Street and Al Khail Road, will have 750 retail and food and beverage outlets over a leasable area o 187,500 sqm.

It will also feature four entertainment attractions including a cineplex, a 65,000 sqft hypermarket, seven anchor retail stores, dedicated parking for more than 7,000 vehicles and a link to the Dubai Metro once an expansion project is completed.

“Dubai Hills Mall is an innovative concept that will redefine the shopping malls and retail sector of the city,” said Meraas group chairman HE Abdulla Al Habbai.

“With the retail and trade sector contributing to about 30 per cent of Dubai’s GDP, it is important to ensure its sustained competitiveness through such lifestyle destinations that welcome visitors from around the world in addition to serving the local community.”

The mall is expected to mainly serve established neighbourhoods in Mohammed bin Rashid City and the catchment areas of Arabian Ranches and other communities upon its scheduled opening in late 2019.

It will be the centre piece of the Dubai Hills Estate master-planned community on the opposite side of Al Khail Road from the Al Quoz Industrial Area

When completed the site will be home to 23 million sqft of green space including a golf course and a 1.9million sqft central park. Around 4,400 villas and townhouses and 22,000 apartments will surround the course.

i can't wait to see the result of the joint venture between Emaar and Meraas!!!
There is basically going to be 4 huge malls within a small area: Dubai mall, meydan mall, DCH mall, and this one, so one of the will most likely fail?
Huh? This is much closer to Mall of the Emirates than to any of those you listed.

Well DCH Mall, Dubai Mall and Meydan Mall won't ... now this one I am worried about .. it looks like just a mall .. no inspiration no attraction no unicity nothing to make it stand out and it is in the middle of a bunch of lowrises and villas (if completed).
Perhaps downsize this mall into a market? On another note are there any prospects to have a world class university campus in dubai? Would be nice to invest a bit in education

I have to agree, there does appear to be an excess of large malls within close proximity to one another. If you've been to one Zara, you've been to them all.

However, based on personal preference, I often struggle to find the energy to to visit Dubai Mall, Mall of Emirates, or similar, particularly on a weekend, based entirely on congestion and ease of access. The time it takes to find parking, park and walk the half marathon to Carrefour only to discover they have sold out of Hummus, often makes the journey more painful than it ought to be. Coupled with the crowds of tourists and selfie sticks and I soon find my blood pressure increases beyond recommend levels!

Sometimes, all you need is a bog-standard mall, with no inspiration and no attractions to make the daily grind a little less hectic than it needs to be. Hopefully this mall will be scaled back to serve the communities around it, and offer less of an experience and more in the way of greater practicality. I'm not sure bog-standard features in Dubai's vocabulary, however!

Absolutely true ... I never drive to malls .. I go by metro so it is a different experience for me :) But parkings are horrible especially on weekends. I feel you

I think you can rely on Emaar and Meraas together to make something special in DHM.
This mall will be the closest and most convenient mall for those who live in the South East of Dubai (DIP, JGE, DSC, JVC,JVT, Arabian Ranches, Akoya, Motor City and of course Dubai Hills residents, who are the few lucky in Dubai to leave in a villa in a walkable distance to a regional mall! :)

I agree. A campus so huge , students would go on 1 hour road trips during the weekend to camp and still be within campus boundaries !

Woah another area with lots of activity, we really need ten times as many updaters in Dubai than we have now.

Wouldn't it be possible to run a small company that makes some money running a website for Dubai construction updates, similar to New York Yimby?

I don't think this mall will survive. They should have done market research before jumping right into development
'UAEProject' has produced this excellent construction update video on Dubai Hills Mall....

ALEC Energy Sign Solar Rooftop Contract with Emaar for Dubai Hills Mall

February 2018: ALEC Energy are very pleased to announce the contract signing for the provision of a
6.5 MWp private solar power plant with Emaar Development for the Dubai Hills Mall project which is
currently under construction
Dubai Hills Mall, is the latest addition to the premier lifestyle destination at Dubai Hills Estate, and will
feature 2 million square feet of leasable space spread out over ground and first floor levels, with over 700
retail and F&B outlets, Family Entertainment, Cinema and Supermarket located on the junction of Al
Khail Road and Umm Suqeim Road the solar power facility will include 24,000 solar panels on the mall
roof and is expected to produce 10,500,000 kwh/units of electrical energy in a year.
The result means an offset of 4,620,000 kg of CO2 every year. This is the equivalent to offsetting the
annual CO2 emissions of 1,673 passenger vehicles driven for one year.
ALEC Energy will carry out all of the system design, local approvals and construction and the plant will be
constructed and commissioned in line with the construction program and be ready to operate in time for
the mall opening.
ALEC Energy General Manager, James Stewart comments, ‘We are very excited to collaborate with
Emaar Development on this exciting solar project. Solar Energy is a smart choice and has many financial
and environmental benefits especially in large malls which are large consumers of power. This decision
also assists the UAE in meeting their 2030 renewable energy targets.’
Following the launch of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 Dubai has targeted to produce 25% of
their total energy using solar plants by 2030 and 75% by 2050. This contract is in line with the Shams
Dubai program and is regulated by DEWA who have prepared a specific solar code for Dubai which
allows consumers to use solar on rooftops without compromising the quality and safety related with use of
solar.

^^ Great way to use the roofs of malls in Dubai!

And if the illustration is correct, there will be a Vida hotel adjacent to the mall. Did we already know this? I didn't, that's for sure. :)
