This is a really impressive development and one that Dubai really needed to take it to the next level of tourism appeal.

Six Flags would be a great addition too, giving it one of the best overall offerings in one location globally.

When you add in the IMG World of Adventure, Dubai Parks and the planned Fox theme park, along with all the other existing and planned attractions, this will be a very significant advantage over many competing destinations.

Dubai Parks & Resorts approves name change to DXB Entertainments

Dubai Parks & Resorts, the company building three linked theme parks in Jebel Ali in Dubai, has resolved to change its name to DXB Entertainments.

At a general assembly meeting on Thursday, the company officially adopted the resolution for the name change.

The Dubai-listed company also voted to appoint Shraven Shroff as an additional board member.

The parks, which are scheduled to open in October of this year, will feature Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai and Legoland, along with a Legoland Water Park.

Dubai Parks and Resorts was spun off in 2014 from Meraas, a private property company owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

The company last month closed a Dh1.6 billion rights issue to help fund the opening of a fourth theme park at its Jebel Ali home.

What about an extension of the metro to this park? I suppose that after a year of operatioins or so, if it turns out to be a very popular attraction, the RTA would approve an extension of the line. That would probably double visitorship to the park as I doubt many toursists would be keen on taking a 100 dhs one way taxi ride to the site.

Dubai Parks and Resorts to support Saudi Six Flags plans

Dubai: Dubai Parks and Resorts will support the proposed development of a Six Flags theme park in Saudi Arabia, under the directive of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

This directive calls for an exception to Dubai Parks and Resorts’ GCC exclusivity clause with American theme park operator, Six Flags, to help grow tourism and entertainment in the wider GCC region, according to a statement on Tuesday. The exception will apply to Saudi Arabia, underscoring the UAE’s support of the Saudi Vision 2030.

The proposed plan to launch Six Flags in Saudi Arabia is part of the Saudi Vision 2030, which envisions a diversified local economy, the addition of jobs for a growing population, and the creation of more cultural and entertainment centres in the kingdom.

“We are proud to support and contribute to the growth of the theme park industry in the Middle East. We believe that there is significant potential for the industry to expand, and the levels of demand can support several entertainment destinations across the region,” stated Raed Al Nuaimi, chief executive of Dubai Parks and Resorts.

Earlier this year, Dubai Parks and Resorts approved plans to build Six Flags Dubai, which is expected to open in Jebel Ali in the fourth quarter of 2019. It is in the final stages of design, with the ground-breaking work set to start in a few days.

Six Flags to build world’s biggest rollercoaster in Dubai

Dubai loves a superlative, and another ‘biggest’ is reportedly heading our way…

If you’re a fan of theme parks, you will have heard of America’s Six Flags which is known for its giant rides and big thrills. Well, guess what? A Six Flags is coming to mega-complex Dubai Parks and Resorts near Jebel Ali and they plan on building the world’s biggest rollercoaster right here in the desert.

While Bollywood Parks Dubai, Motiongate Dubai, Legoland Dubai, Legoland Water Park, Riverland and Lapita Hotel will open on Monday October 31, the Six Flags park is slated to open in 2019.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Six Flags “has pledged to build the world’s biggest roller-coaster ride in Dubai”.

“There will be rides that are bigger, better, faster, broader than any rides in the world,” added John Odum, who is senior vice president of international park operations at Six Flags.

If they build the tallest rollercoaster in Dubai they’ll be beating their own record, as the tallest rollercoaster in the world currently is at a Six Flags in New Jersey (pictured above).

Earlier this year Dubai Parks said Six Flags will include “at least three world record breaking rides”. It will feature six roller coasters, four aerial attractions, a 340-metre long rapids ride and three performance spaces.

Oh, and remember, the world’s fastest rollercoaster is currently at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi.

In other theme park news, IMG Worlds of Adventure (the globe’s largest indoor theme park) opens near Global Village on August 31, head here for a video sneak peek from inside the park.

Dubai Parks and Resorts in Jebel Ali will be a 25-million-square-foot complex when complete (which is the equivalent of around 425 American football fields).
Here’s a sample of some Six Flags coasters around the world…

Full Throttle is the tallest and fastest looping rollercoaster in the world at 48 metres and 112 km per hour…

This isn’t the last of it though – Six Flags, Motiongate, Bollywood Parks and Legoland only form the first phase of Dubai Parks & Resorts.

Dubai’s mission is to attract 20 million tourists or more by 2020, and with 78 million passengers passing through Dubai airport last year, their target doesn’t seem so far out of reach.

As a whole Dubai Parks is estimated to bring in a massive 6.7 million visitors in its first 12 months of operation, generating Dhs2.4 billion in revenue. To put it shortly, it’s going to be humungous, and it’s only going to get bigger – as you can see in this video of a replica of the park complex…

ou’ll also find the 500-room Lapita Hotel at Dubai Parks – so you could quite easily spend your entire vacation amongst the theme parks, and not even visit the city.
