'Mohammed approves Dh2b Dubai Creek waterfront project'

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday approved a Dh2 billion project to develop the Dubai Creek waterfront in the Al Seef area, extending 1.8 kilometres from Al Fahidi to Bur Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed, accompanied by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, viewed a model of the project, which will include tourism, cultural and heritage activities.

The Dubai Creek Development project will reflect Sheikh Mohammed’s vision to make Dubai the premier destination for tourists from the Gulf and Arab countries, and around the world. Developed by Meraas Holding, it will include traditional souqs, restaurants, art galleries, workshops for Emirati folklore arts, and handicraft stores.

Floating market
Featuring Emirati architecture, the project will also have a floating market and hotels with more than 500 rooms that will be ready by the end of 2016.

^^Not sure how the "new" Floating Bridge will fit into this scheme once it's moved to OBAK road near the Sheraton.

World Heritage Site

What's happened to Dubai's application to have the Creek as a World Heritage site?
I thought the decision was supposed to be made/confirmed in June?

Carillion JV wins $590m Dubai construction contracts

UK builder Carillion said on Wednesday that its joint venture business in the UAE - Al Futtaim Carillion - has been selected as the preferred bidder for two contracts, worth £380 million ($590 million).

The construction firm said Meraas, a Dubai-based holding company, has selected the JV as the preferred bidder for a £225 million contract to build a mixed-use development on the Dubai Creek waterfront.

The project consists of food, beverage and other retail buildings, underground and multi-storey car parks, three hotels, a mosque, museums, traditional workshops and a market.
