The Waterfront thread seems to be getting clogged with NB Link talk, I think it is time for a specific discussion thread.

Should only be a couple of weeks until the new masterplan is available!

I dont expect to be blown away like the waterfornt masterplan reveal though...

ok well just use this one as discussion until that happens. i did notice it and that it was closed for replys.
You never know. Expect a big park...
what about an above ground rail line with an accompanying run-down bus station and derelict entertainment centre.

thats is what is going to be there in 20 years from now.
well im not going to be happy.

I want nothing short of a large water body with some fountains and boardwalks like the lake in east perth, except with some 25 floor towers on the lake edge.
Nice, sf. I'm pretty much the opposite. I'll be dissapointed if theres too much faffy mandurah boardwalk water-feature fakery. I want laneways, very small public areas, affordable housing and at least one ****-off huge tower and some large public art.

Also can we have a building covered in LEDs like that thing in china? Man that's awesome.

i had this beautiful dream last night and it had 1 building that was 350m tall, it was a beautiful observation tower surrounded with 3 250m towers around a small water body and then around it was (i dont know how it would fit together) the laneways of Melbourne that make that city so famous. Full of life and interesting.

i will try and produce a drawing of it, i have to try and remember though

If it does not include a fully intergraded upgrade of Perth Train Station with equal frontage from the Perth and Northbridge side, I dont care.

Why would you want money spent on an upgrade to the side of the station that faces a carpark entrance and a gallery loading dock?

Because that would be thinking ahead. Nobody does that i know.

Thinking ahead for what? Do you see the carpark being demolished some time soon? The entire cultural centre is elevated well above the street and the new theatre will need the parking spaces. What frontage treatment are you thinking of?

in my dream (it was very hazy) the current link and the station was redeveloped, ie the freeway to barrack st

there were buildings like this in my dream but then again my dream was very random and there was really no cohesion.

those buildings are quiet shit.

:p
This one looks a little like one of a past proposal for the replacement of the twintowers in New york with the beams out of the top of the bldg. But when i go quote you, i see it is a fosters or russian tower in moscow.....

That would never be built on the link, it is too tall no one would want it there, perhaps in the city a more rounded building like this and scalled back might go well on the terrace or foreshore....

^^ Everyone would have a heart attack if they saw that being built on the foreshore.

I absolutely love it though.
well it wasnt the exact designs, but in my dream there were similar designed buildings

Move the Gallery to the Waterfront, delete the current Gallery building and perhaps put in a University Campus with natural street frontage towards Roe street.

The current building on west side of the Beaufort street bridge could additionally be deleted to make way for a larger central station.

This would make the second sinking of the rail from Beaufort Street to Lord Street far easier.
