I use Bryce 5 , its more a landscape tool but i find it useful for 3d modeling . The only thing it does not have is the accuracy 3DS max does.

Theatre precinct reinforces city’s cultural foundations
04.03.2005

The Chronicle

MOTHER Nature let rip with a massive rumble of thunder at the precise moment the Empire Theatre Centenary Conference Precinct was officially opened yesterday.

It could perhaps be taken as a roar of approval for a project that has been dogged with controversy since first mooted in the 1990s — and certainly how Empire Theatres Foundation chairman Peter Swannell would like to see it.

"It was a controversial decision in the 1990s to restore the theatre, and I think now to all who love the performing arts, it was a superb decision," he said, wiping the sweat from his brow.

(It may have fittingly — been only a theatrical gesture: it later transpired that Toowoomba City Council will fund the air-conditioning of the theatre church.)

"The precinct will also win that support by offering the people of Toowoomba the whole experience," Professor Swannell said.

One of those initially opposed to redevelopment of the Empire Theatre was Toowoomba Mayor Dianne Thorley, who was more than happy yesterday to eat her words.

"I guess I’ve had my epiphany on the road to Damascus," Cr Thorley said.

"I didn’t support it, but now I’m an advocate for the Empire Theatre.

"Paris people didn’t want the Eiffel Tower, Sydney didn’t want the Opera House or the Harbour Bridge, and Toowoomba didn’t want the Empire Theatre.

"Now we love the Empire Theatre — and the obelisks!"

More than 120 people attended yesterday’s opening, held in the fully restored 1877 gothic church adjacent to the theatre.

The magnificent original stained-glass windows threw brilliant shards of light across the guests, who were entertained by an ensemble of young instrumentalists from Harristown State High School.

The theme of the morning — "Expanding Possibilities" — was based on the aim of making the precinct the very hub of Toowoomba events and cultural life.

City house prices do better than Brisbane
03.03.2005

The Chronicle

TOOWOOMBA house prices continued to outperform the Brisbane market in the December quarter, jumping a solid 4.6%.
However, the market may slow temporarily in the current quarter after the Reserve Bank of Australia yesterday moved to head off any pick-up in inflation by lifting interest rates by 0.25 of a percentage point.

Toowoomba’s median house price rose to $226,000 in the December quarter from $216,000 in the previous quarter.

The Real Estate Institute of Queensland Ltd (REIQ) figures were based on quarterly sales of 620. In comparison, the median Brisbane house price rose 0.6% in the quarter to $352,000.

Within Toowoomba, Rockville led the gains with a 19.4% rise in the median price of a house in the December quarter to $191,000, based on 25 sales.

Toowoomba couple Barry and Sandra Sharpe were happy with the price they recently received for their Centenary Heights home, sold by Terry Parker of Raine & Horne.

"Back when there was the boom we might have got a little bit more, but we are happy with the price," Mrs Sharpe said.

She said interest was a little slow before Christmas but after that more people had been looking.
