Proposed interchange at Shahdara Mor

this is just ridiculous.. only simple design would have done the same purpose..look at the right flyover along the metro bus lane, why is that not coming straight over the bus parking? and why not under-pass? this what happens when u rush things, they shouldve had a master plan before the built metro bus.

1) Curved underpass would be more dangerous.

2) It is going to be a 7-8 km long bridge. And mostly heavy vehicles like trolleys, inter-city buses, trucks pass through this road. So underpass won't be a good option for this traffic. Remember its GT road! Imagine what would happen if they had built an underpass at Faizabad instead of current interchange.

^^ im not saying make the whole interchange underground but the one going perpendicular to the metro lane..this looks a mess tight now. if they make that underground the cost will be much lower and it will look much better..

G.T. Road caters to a mix of local and heavy intercity traffic, leading to congestion and increased travel time. Shahdarah Junction is often choked, while railway crossing at Imamia Colony creates additional delays. Intercity traffic arriving from the north via GT Road often takes a detour at Kala Shah Kaku to enter Lahore through ThokarNiazBaig because of this congestion. A grade-separated expressway is expected to ease traffic congestion, and reduce stress of heavy traffic on the route.

This project was part of the Master Plan (2001-2010) developed by NESPAK in 2002. It has also been recommended in the Lahore Urban Transport Master Plan (LUTMP) 2010-30, prepared by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with The Urban Unit, P&D Department, GoPb in 2011.

The proposed project will affect the following:
traffic flow from Lahore city to Gujranwala.
traffic bottleneck at railway line crossing will be removed;
approach for Metro Bus system;
choke at Shahdara Junction.

The main proposed features of the project are as below:

Right of way (ROW) .......... 200 ft.
No. of lanes .............. 3-lane dual carriageway flyover along with 2-lane MBS elevated corridor
Length ........... 10 km
Service road .......... 2x40 feet wide
Walkways ............. 2x6 feet wide
Parking .......... 2x15 feet wide
Street lights .............. LEDs
Average daily traffic (ADT) ............... 115,000 vehicles per day (VPD)

and why you all are focusing to build simple underpass and round about bro heck of a interchange if you go there em vd SS...THANKS OMI BRO:cheers::)

now this is very interesting. It seems that the Government is interested to extend the current metro bus route towards Kala Shah kaku as we can see a new line (flyover) being extended northwards from Shahdra more.

Beautiful

This is great solution to traffic problem

Like Hong Kong Lahore is also land constrained as locked on all sided, like one side by river ravi, other by b.r.b. canal, other kasur other by sheikupura district

Population is gonna explode to 25 million in 2025.


To solve future traffice problem and for greater economic advantage its great idea to connect all areas of city and with other districts of punjab

We need heavy investment in infrastructure and Ma Sha Allah government is on right track.

For general look of this junction, function is more important than looks,

Thursday, February 06, 2014 - Lahore—Quartermaster General, Lt. Gen. Najib Ullah Khan met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here today. Maj. Gen. Asghar Nawaz, Director General NLC Brig. (Retd) Shahid Majeed, Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad, Minister for Communication & Works Tanveer Aslam, Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Secretary Home, Secretary Finance, Commissioner Lahore Division, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division and other concerned officers were present. Development projects being executed in the province were discussed in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Punjab government is implementing development projects in a transparent manner and their timely completion is being ensured so that people could benefit from them as early as possible. He said that third-party audit system has also been introduced for development projects. He said that southern loop of Lahore Ring Road and Shadara to Kala Shah Kaku expressway projects are of vital importance and Punjab government wants to initiate both the projects at the earliest.

The Chief Minister issued instructions for the formation of a high powered committee for presenting final recommendations about both the projects within seven days. He said that extension of metro bus project road from Shahdra to Imamia Colony be considered. Lt. Gen. Najib Ullah Khan said that development projects would be implemented in a transparent manner in accordance with the development vision of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

Was not the title "LAHORE| Shahdara-Kala Shah Kaku Expressway | Metro Bus System | Infrastructure | PRO"?
BTW the distance between Shahdara and Muridke equals the distance between Rawat and Zero Point interchange..so my opinion is that there should be "LAHORE' in this thread's title
