The town of Bagamoyo, Tanzania, was founded at the end of the 18th century. It was the original capital of
German East Africa and was one of the most important trading ports along the East African coast.

Giraffe at Saadani
Saadani National Park is small but varied. Not a good place for those who are desperate to see the 'Big 5', but it's wonderfully varied, with a range of game which does include lion, leopard, buffalo and elephant. However, it's unique in being beside the coast, so the animals can be seen on the beach. The Lodge does not allow guests to walk unaccompanied along the beach after dark, but it's fine during the day.
