Doha, Apr 25: Qatar plans to invest five billion dollars in India in an effort to boost economic ties following a visit to New Delhi by Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassem al-Thani, his ministry announced today.

"The state of Qatar announces its readiness to invest five billion dollars in various projects that will benefit both countries, it said, in a statement carried by the official news agency QNA.

It said Qatar, which is home to a large Indian expatriate community, wanted to "build bridges" with India.

Sheikh Hamad and his Indian hosts examined "several projects ... As well exchanges of expertise", it said, without giving details or any indication of the investments planned.

That is soooooooo much money to be invested in India. Why don't they invest it in Doha instead!!!
India is a huge potential market and this amount of investment will pay off.
^^Yeah but we could have used this money in Qatar
^^ We are. We are expanding internally so fast that we are ready to leap our influence to the outside nations.
This is a smart move on Qatar's part. You can only invest so much in one place. India is a huge investment opportunity and Qatar has made the right decision.
Im guessing we will build oil refinaries and re-gas terminals.

Qatar is already shipping gas to India so trade relations are boosted in that area. As for tourism, Qatar might also build tourist resorts there like the ones in Morocco and Tunis I think.
I don't know if they would make as much money out of India
