Qatar & Somalia sign agreement on Development projects worth $200 million.

The Federal Government of Somalia and the Qatar fund for International Development today signed agreements worth USD 200 Million today the 28-NOV-2017.

The projects to be financed are flagship programs of Somalia's as contained in the countries first post conflict 3 year National Development Plan.

The projects to be financed include :

The rebuilding of the premises of the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development & Investment Promotion, which includes the building of the Institute of Statistics & Applied Economics [ISAE].
Rehabilitation and rebuilding of the Foreign service training center and the Diplomatic both under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rebuilding of the former HQ of the Somali Socialist Revolutionary Party [SSRP] to accommodate several government offices as the Villa Somalia has become crowded.
The critical Mogadishu - Afgoye road as well as the 90km Mogadishu - Jowhar roads are to be rebuilt to international standards of 4 lane highways, these critical roads would increase and improve access to economic and agricultural areas, this economic belt was identified as of critical importance by the NDP.
Several projects targeted towards youth employment as well as a generous scholarship scheme has also been agreed upon.
All in all if we factor in the commitments by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Somalia shall see more than $ 400 million of infrastructure and $ 300 million of direct budgetary support to the Somali federal budget in the next 3 years.

The QFFD official also said the MoU with Ashghal would include important development projects in the fields of infrastructure, buildings, and project management. “This MoU also signals the beginning of its implementation in developing infrastructure in Somalia."

The MoU, he said, would ensure the start of the preparation of technical designs for the 90km-long Mogadishu – Jawhar Road and the 30km-long Mogadishu–Afgoye Road, which are very important projects that will enable the Somalian people to build the infrastructure systems in the country, contributing directly to economic growth and achieving sustainable development.
