this still "Pending" approval

the following is a scanned copy of a page 24 artcle in Evening Chronicle dated 06/09/12 (hosted on Photobucket)

It relates to the following Planning Application that has just been granted ( but still on planning portal as "Pending" ) in respect of "temporary Car Park" some distance south of the QE Hospital site

DC/12/00832/FUL

Change of use of existing area of open space to temporary 383 space park and ride facility (for Queen Elizabeth Hospital staff) with ancillary works including soil storage, external lighting, site cabin and boundary treatment with public parking on evening and weekends in connection with use of pitches (amended 08/08/12).

Site To West Of Old Durham Road Comprising Part Of Mossheaps Recreation Ground Moss Bank Gateshead

http://public.gateshead.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=M7PGUUHK3Y000

In the newspaper article it states work on car park begins Autumn 2012 which obviously dictates the start date for new work at the QE complex

Emergency Care Centre at Q E Hospital, Gateshead

.
Evening Chronicle, Tuesday November 27th 2012 . .
You beat me to it

This is the link "badly printed" over 2 lines in article http://www.qegateshead.nhs.uk/emergencycarecentre

For information work is progressing on the "temporary staff car park area" located at Mossheaps - covered in Gateshead Developments thread posts 752 and 791

Assume this £32 million project is now to be covered in this thread rather than "Gateshead Developments"

Well, it could be in either thread, whichever you prefer?

The "Gateshead Developments" thread is one of our busiest and most successful threads, so I suspect it would be easier for the Hospital re-development to stand-out over on this thread.

So, I have copied the two posts you mention into this thread (they are also still in Gateshead Developments) so we have, I assume, the complete story as reported on the forum to date, on here now?

Best place for it is here and now the 2 other posts are with it so reflects the full project

Gateshead's new Emergency Care Centre's nod to history
by Katie Davies, Evening Chronicle, December 4th 2012

MEMORIES from a soldier’s hospital will live on when cash generated from its former site will support the creation of a new emergency care centre. Originally established as a War Pensioner Hospital in 1928, Dunston Hill Hospital provided palliative care and mental health services for more than 50 years before it was closed earlier this year. Plans for houses for the 2.45-acre site have been unveiled and residents are invited to view the £8m redevelopment at a public meeting tonight.

Hospital bosses say the revenue gathered by the sale of the land will assist with the funding of the £32m Emergency Care Centre at Gateshead’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The unit will provide treatment of children, accident and emergency facilities including a walk-in facility, a 35-bed short-stay unit and also specialist diagnostic equipment.

Director of Estates and Facilities at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, Peter Harding said: “Earlier this year all of the in-patient services left the Dunston Hill Hospital site and relocated, including to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It is proposed to use the surplus land at the site for new residential development; and the revenue generated by the sale of the land will assist in the funding of the new Emergency Care Centre planned for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”

Ended up in A&E myself today after ruining my rotator cuff (another story)

Advanced works from when I was last there. The entrance to the hospital now only lets you reach A&E and doesn't let you turn down towards the Pharmacy.

Parking was a nightmare. There's a good display full of information and plans in outpatients if anyone has the misfortune to spend some time there

These pictures taken by myself on Sunday 24/03/13 approx 1000 to show state of works on this scheme - as seems to be the case on most projects, solid fence limit picture opportunity but there are some vantage points through mesh gates

Images hosted on Photobucket

Any pictures of old hospital buildings that have been demolished for this scheme?
