I present you Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Located on the slopes of the Pichincha Volcano on the Western Andes range, the city boasts approximately 2 million people in its metro area. At and average altitude of 2,850 m amsl (city center) Quito is home to some of the "highest" highrise buildings in the World. The city itself rises to over 3,500 m amsl on its western edge and drops to about 2,600 meters at the eastern suburbs.

Nice:) I wonder what it feels like to be at such altitude...
When I go to Quito an go up a flight of stairs it feels like I sprinted for two blocks. As time goes by, though, your body adjusts and you do not feel shortness of breath as much.

The altitude is also interesting for, say, the performance of vehicles, aircraft, etc. Most cars need to be fine-tuned to maximize performance at such altitude. I once drove a car from Quito to the coastal plains and as I approached sea level, it felt like the car went from a Hyundai to a Ferrari performance wise!

I find it very interesting how the altitude even effects cars, etc. Amazing. I'm wondering how the altitude would effect someone say, like myself, as a first time visitor to such a place??... :)

Thank you for these wonderful photos
