to protect the taxi drivers, perhaps?

Probably for the Lot G project...but no signboard posted yet...I wonder when they will actually get things started.

Poor effort and planning on the part of the management corporation. They should have built the connection to brickfields at the beginning!

Cheers, m

"arrival from Sri Petaling" ataupun "departure to Sri Petaling " ?

In KL Sentral all buses are going inward to Pasar Seni kan ?
It's the arrival from Sri Petaling.it's quite accurate but sometimes it doesn't.

almost all RapidKL buses going inward to Pasar Seni accept a few buses like U82,U83..etc

RapidKL kerah 100 kakitangan tambahan

PETALING JAYA 30 Dis. - Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn. Bhd.

Revamp may see RapidKL coming under Prasarana
By Kang Siew LiPublished: 2009/01/02

RANGKAIAN Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn Bhd (RapidKL) is expected to undergo a major restructuring over the next few months that could see the loss-making public transport operator come under Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd, say sources.

They said the proposed restructuring is aimed at streamlining current administrative procedures between the two organisations, reducing duplication and overlapping of functions and cutting costs.

Under the current structure, RapidKL and Prasarana operate as separate companies, even though both are wholly-owned government companies under the Ministry of Finance Inc.

Prasarana is the asset owner of the two light rail transit (LRT) systems and bus services in the Klang Valley, while RapidKL operates them.

"As part of the proposed restructuring plan, the KL Monorail operations may be injected into RapidKL's network for the latter to run," a source told Business Times.

In December 2007, Prasarana took over the assets and operations of the KL Monorail System, which is currently being managed by KL StarRail Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Prasarana.

Another source said the proposed restructuring will also likely result in Rapid Penang Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of RapidKL and operator of Penang's bus service, being made a subsidiary of Prasarana.

Sources said the proposed restructuring will also involve the redeployment or redesignation among senior executives of both companies.

It is understood that Prasarana group managing director Datuk Idrose Mohamed will continue to head the company under the new organisational structure, while RapidKL chief executive offi-cer Suffian Baharuddin is expected to assume the role of execu-tive director.

"In addition, the restructuring may see an internal merger of some divisions including asset management and development, and strategic planning and communications," a source said.

RapidKL officials could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Prasarana owns the assets of two LRT lines namely the Ampang Line (formerly known as Star-LRT) and the Kelana Jaya Line (formerly Putra-LRT).

Apart from being the asset owners of the two LRT systems, Prasarana also supplied 1,055 new buses as of April last year to service routes within the Klang Valley and 150 buses in Penang.

Useless unless if someobdy fix the link between the monorail station and KL Sentral.................and also Bukit Nanas monorail station to Dang Wangi LRT station..........

Another problem that need to be solved....

-Monorail car length, currently is only 2 cars........those units should be extended to 4 cars, because during peak hours, the monorail cars can be very packed......

- Long queues, especially Bukit Bintang station, they should install ticket vending machines to solve that problem...

Comments on the proposed revamp

Dear Editor

RE: What are all these 'revamps' doing to improve public transport service?

I finished 2008 with great hope that public transport in Malaysia would soon be improved. But the truth is that the government still has not understood public transport and various ministries and various levels of government still operate in isolation-meaning that more time is spent on short-term issues instead of long-term planning.

Aside from the controversy over the relocation of the Klang North bus terminal, there are the proposed revamps of KTMB and RapidKL by two different ministries that should be carefully examined.

Recently, the Ministry of Transport announced that it would push ahead with breaking down KTMB into different companies, namely asset owners (owning the tracks and trains and stations and workshops) and operators (to operate the trains and stations). This would be a continuation of the stalled corporatization (and eventual privatization) plans for KTMB. The Minister of Transport mentioned from Italy that it might be useful to bring in competitors for KTMB. Presumably the presence of more competition would lead to improved service.

In sharp contrast, the Ministry of Finance is announcing a different revamp of Prasarana and RapidKL. Under this proposal, RapidKL (and presumably, RapidPenang) would become a division within Prasarana. Integrating the Prasarana and RapidKL is supposedly going to help find savings which will allow the company to be more profitable. It is also being proposed that Prasarana will integrate the KL Monorail and have RapidKL operate it.

The irony here is that the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Finance seem to have completely different ideas on how to oversee and manage public transport. The Ministry of Transport wants more companies and more competition, while the Ministry of Finance is looking at fewer companies and reduced overhead costs.

But what is being forgotten here is that all these planned "revamps" at the management level are doing nothing to improve the actual, day-to-day public transport services. It seems that the Transport Ministry and Finance Ministry have been too busy planning revamps to ensure that there would be enough lines, enough buses and trains, and enough employees to operate the services.

And while these revamps are occurring, it is likely that employees of RapidKL and Prasarana and KTMB will be spending time worrying about the security of their jobs, instead of continuing with their duty to improve public transport. As the new revamp occurs, lots of time will be wasted with office and ministry politics, administrative changes, etc. One wonders if there will be enough time to focus on improving planning and operations!

We should also consider that the proposed Transport Commission has not even been set up yet. So, why is there a rush to revamp the management structure of KTMB and Prasarana & RapidKL? There is no point in making the effort to revamp these organizations only to have it undone by the new Transport Commission!

The fact that people still describe RapidKL as a "loss-making company" is a true disappointment. RapidKL makes losses because it operates decent public transport services. It should be spending more money and losing more money, albeit responsibly, so that we can see better public transport services.

If we start focusing on profits instead of service, then we will lose sight of the very simple fact that public transport is for the public! And if we start focusing on corporate revamps, we will forget that there is only one revamp that really matters-the one that makes public transport the responsibility of a Select Parliamentary Committee, answerable to Parliament and the rakyat!

dont you think the loss due to underpriced ticket? RM2 for whole day trip is too low.....yeah, it is good for the rakyat, but rakyat must consider the operation cost too.

Nothing related with maintenance, if they can increase the capacity, you can got more passengers...

More passengers = higher revenue

Simple as that :)

RapidKL, IRM lancar tabung Gaza

Oleh DG KU MAHIRAH AG BINTING

KUALA LUMPUR 20 Jan.

Commuter hell in the making

TRANSIT (The Association for the Improvement of Mass Transit) is dismayed that the KL Sentral bus hub will be closed for development. KL Sentral’s design does not provide for buses as a viable and interchangeable mode of public transport.

Even before the planned closure of the bus terminal, bus users had to endure harsh waiting conditions during the evening rush-hour along Jalan Tun Sambanthan. With the closing of the stage bus terminal and detour of walking paths between KL Sentral and Jalan Tun Sambanthan, bus users will face more difficulties switching between different modes of public transport.

Transit has forwarded proposals to various government bodies and agencies on the importance of establishing integrated public transport gateways for KL with direct, unobstructed access of expressway buses (dubbed as Expressway Rapid Transit or ERT) to rapid travel corridors such as the Maju Expressway, Akleh, Duke and NKVE/Sprint. With the planned commercialisation of the only vacant areas left around KL Sentral, there will be no space nearby left for the extension of the existing bus transit hub that allows convenient transfer from express, trunk and city buses to other modes of public transport. Without a proper terminal for buses, it will be impossible for the integrated public transport hub to be truly effective in serving the vast commuting population east of KL.

If we can share our resources to build sidewalks, streetlamps and streets, why is it hard for us to get the same allocation to build public transport infrastructure that can better use our scarce urban spaces to solve traffic congestion and serve urban mobility needs effectively. We don’t have to worry about beating each other for the scarce road space we’ve left. Private transport guzzles more fuel, eats bigger road space, emits more pollution and has higher capital and operational expenditure per passenger mile than public transport. We must question our present approach in solving urban congestion woes, and move our mass transit forward.

Tarikh pindah operasi RapidKL ditunda

Bagaimanapun, Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn. Bhd. (RapidKL) tidak memberikan alasan penundaan tarikh itu.

Pengurus Besar Komunikasi RapidKL, Ebi Azly Abdullah berkata, laluan bas itu terpaksa dipindahkan ke Jalan Tun Sambanthan berikutan kerja-kerja pembangunan Lot G KL Sentral oleh pemiliknya, Kumpulan MRCB.

Kerja-kerja pembangunan tersebut dijangka memakan masa selama empat tahun.

Menurutnya, laluan bas yang akan dipindahkan ke perhentian Jalan Tun Sambanthan adalah U60, U63, U64, U65, U66, U67, U68, U69, U70, U71, U72, U73, U74, U75, U80, U81, U84, U85, U87, U88, E1 E2 dan E4.

"Laluan yang kekal di Hab Bas KL Sentral adalah U76, U82, U83, T423, B101, B105, B110, B112 dan DTS (Cyberjaya)," katanya dalam satu kenyataan di sini.

Tambah Ebi, penumpang juga diminta menghubungi pengurusan bangunan KL Sentral untuk penjelasan lanjut berhubung penutupan Hab Bas KL Sentral.

RapidKL sedia 6 bas
