Hi Everyone

Ive posted a lot of information about the new bus fares, include scanned images of many of the bus routes like this image of U81 below.

Im also working on creating a map of the fare zones around KL so that people have an understanding of what zones they are travelling through.

The map will be based on the BastrenKL map,

If you are interested in helping me out, how about scanning the bus route info from the brochures, or helping me mark zone boundaries on the bastrenkl map.

See http://transitmy.org/2009/09/02/change-to-zonal-fares/ for more info

RapidKL sets up task force to curb A(H1N1)
By BAVANI M

RAPIDKL or Rangkaian Pengang–kutan Integrasi Deras Sdn Bhd has formed a special task force to curb the spread of influenza A (H1N1).

The taske force, led by RapidKL security, safety and health adviser, Ahmad Samsuri Ahmad Mukri, comprises 13 heads of department who will monitor the situation and take preventive action.

“An independent consultant has also been hired to disinfect and sterilise all RapidKL buses and LRT trains every day.

“All 13 depots have established a team of sanitation experts who will clean the buses and trains,” Ahmad Samsuri said.

“We are also spraying anti-bacterial solution in the train during breaks at the Kelana Jaya, Gombak, Ampang and Sri Petaling stations,” he said,

He added that the stations were also cleaned using special chemicals to ensure it was safe.

Sanitisers are also provided at all LRT stations, bus depots and RapidKL offices.

“Employee temperatures are taken every morning and if the reading is high, they will be sent for treatment,” Ahmad Samsuri said.

He added that frontliners such as ticketing staff, security officers and bus drivers were provided with protective masks.

Ahmad Samsuri said there were an average of 700,000 commuters using RapidKL services each day, which showed that people were still using public transport to get around.

“It is important that we do everything to keep the public safe,” he said.

Yesterday, RapidKL employees were seen urging commuters to use the sanitising gels placed at the stations.

Most stations reported that the bottles had to be replaced every hour as the response was good.

Asia Media to spend RM50m to boost TV service on buses
By Azlan Abu Bakar Published: 2009/09/18

ASIA Media Sdn Bhd plans to invest more than RM50 million over the next three years to upgrade its television service on buses, allowing it to broadcast live and interactive shows.

It plans to complete the upgrade by 2010, said founder and chief executive officer Datuk Ricky Wong.

It has invested RM12 million so far to set up and mantain the infrastructure for its flagship channel - Asia Media TV.

Asia Media has over 3,000 TV screens on 1,450 buses that belong to RapidKL, Plusliner and Handal Indah. It draws a total of 3.5 million viewers a week.

Speaking at a media briefing in Petaling Jaya yesterday, Wong said Asia Media has applied for a transit broadcasting licence and expects to get approval from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia by year-end.

He said the company will be the first in the country to deploy digital video broadcasting (DVB) for Transit-TV.

"Our roll-out for Klang Valley is scheduled to be completed by 2010 and will be extended to Johor Baru and Penang by 2011," he said, adding that programs will be delivered in high quality digital audio-visual format.

"With the expansion of our services and the introduction of live interactive TV, we expect our revenue to jump by more than 20 per cent in 2010," he said.

Besides growing its business in Malaysia, Wong said Asia Media is looking to set its foot in other countries soon.

"We are in discussions with parties from Dubai and Indonesia who are interested in our business. They want to learn more about our business model."

Talks are due to be completed soon.

Set up in 2007, the company had received awards like The Rising Star Award and the MSC Malaysia (Asia Pacific ICT Awards) Best Start-up Company Award.

Terajui TV digital
18 September 2009 Oleh AZMAN IBRAHIM

Live news for bus commuters

COMMUTERS on RapidKL buses can look forward to more interesting ads and programmes from Asia Media’s Transit-TV next year.

According to Asia Media CEO Datuk Ricky Wong the company would be the first to deploy digital video broadcasting (DVB) for Transit-TV.

To date, Asia Media had invested RM12mil in setting up and maintaining the infrastructure for its flagship channel — Asia Media TV and plans to invest a further RM50mil over the next three years to upgrade their existing Transit-TV network system to a live narrow casting digital Transit-TV system.

Wong said after the upgrade commuters would be able to view live programs such as daily news, latest government policies, announcements, interactive TV, sports and weather forecasts.

More to come: Najib (left) and Wong during the bus tour

“At present, we have over 3000 LCD TVs on some 1500 stage and express buses providing info-tainment programmes and advertising in Klang Valley, Johor, Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia,” said Wong during the announcement of the live digital broadcast initiative recently.

He said the digital Transit-TV would be able to serve not only bus but ferry, trains and taxis too with a larger screen display providing extensive coverage with proven commercial applications.

During the briefing recently, Wong together with Asia Media chairman Tan Sri Mohd Najib Abdul Aziz took media representatives on a short bus tour to view its current Transit-TV screens in RapidKL buses.

Last month an agreement was signed between Star Publications (M) Bhd and Asia Media Sdn Bhd advertisements promoting Star Group’s products such as StarJobs, The Star Online, Red FM, Galaxie magazine, etc will run on all RapidKL buses.

In return, Star will feature Asia Media products on its various platforms which include newspaper and magazines, as well as new media platforms like mobile, Star Online, radio and online radio

Public transport still unpopular

KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Minister wants more Klang Valley folk to use public transport but recognises that services first need to be improved.

Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said he was willing to hear the concerns of consumers as well as players in the public transportation sector.

Pleasant surprise: A bus commuter greeting Ong during his visit to the Taman Maluri bus station in Cheras yesterday. — Pic courtesy of Nanyang

Currently, only 16% of the Klang Valley’s population uses public transport and the Government would like to increase this figure to 25%.

Ong said that among the main complaints were irregular service in certain areas, lack of service during non-peak hours, vehicle breakdown and poor maintenance of bus terminals and bus stops.

He added that he would also look at having unpopular residential roads being properly serviced by public transport.

Ong, the Urban Public Transport panel head, said it was on his agenda to meet with not only public bus operators but also representatives of other modes of public transport such as the Light Rail Transit and KTM Komuter.

On bus companies complaining of unfair pricing compared to fares set by the Govern-ment for RapidKL buses, Ong said he would gather feedback.

“We are here not just to promote only one company’s interest but also to look into national concerns.

“If we want to allow competition, then it should be on a level playing field but not at the expense of the public,” he said during a fact-finding walkabout at the Taman Maluri bus station in Cheras yesterday.

Ong also pointed out that his ministry was not the only one with the power and jurisdiction over public transport.

The Transport Ministry is not the licensing agency for bus services nor is it responsible for the recent fare hike.

On whether the ministry might provide subsidies to encourage the use of public transport, he said: “Let us not be obsessed with the subsidy psyche — the main thing now is improving the areas of concern.”

He said the ministry was also looking into the possibility of introducing inter-company passes but it was not easy to convince all the companies.

^^Proper, Comfortable and Just-In-Time public transport surely will attract passenger.

Then Congestion Charge Zone (CCZ) can be used for KL in order to reduce number of car within city area. London congestion charge is good example to be implement in Klang Valley.

What you suggest has been suggested long time ago.

If they want to implement this, they would first have to upgrade and improve the public transportation first.
400 new buses for RapidKL?

400 new buses for RapidKL? - http://transitmy.org/2009/10/23/400-new-buses-for-rapidkl/

The Association for the Improvement of Mass-Transit (TRANSIT) notes that public transport holding company Prasarana (Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad) has placed a tender announcement for the purchase of 400 new chassis for CKD (completely knocked down) buses to be operated on by their subsidiary RapidKL Sdn. Bhd.

Tender announcement: BM, English

At present, we do not know if the tender for 400 bus chassis is for an expansion of services or a replacement for some of the buses that were purchased for RapidKL between 2005-2009.

In any case, the timing of the tender is interesting, given the release of the Auditor General's 2008 Report which found problems with the purchase of RapidKL buses in 2007-2008 that were of low quality.

We are also concerned because these low-quality buses were purchased to replace buses (operated by IntraKota) that were scrapped by Prasarana in 2005-2006.

According to a statement on Prasarana's website, these former IntraKota buses were incapable of being salvaged when they were turned over to Prasarana.

We at TRANSIT expect that buses should be able to last at least 10-12 years without requiring significant maintenance or overhaul. The fact that Prasarana has sent buses less than 5 years old to the scrap heap already, and may do so again in the near future, is of great concern to us.

We also find it especially interesting is that, according to an industry source, the tender was actually called earlier this year (we do not know which company was successful) and the tender announcement this week is actually a 'surprise' re-tender!

In light of the Auditor General's 2008 Report as well as concerns about the interior design of the RapidKL buses, the Association for the Improvement of Mass-Transit (TRANSIT) calls on Prasarana to open up the tender process for greater scrutiny from the public, the Auditor-General's Office and interested Wakil Rakyat.

We also believe that it is vital to have feedback from public transport users on the design and interior features of buses.

Sincerely

Moaz Yusuf Ahmad
on behalf of TRANSIT

RapidKL-RapidPenang takeover: Not bailout
Published: 2009/11/04

The takeover of RapidKL and RapidPenang by Prasarana Sdn Bhd, a government-linked company, was not a bailout but to ensure the smooth operation of the public transport services, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussein said both companies provided a social service and if the operation was managed by the private sector, commuters might not get the full benefits.

"In the hands of private companies, which are driven by profit, no buses would ply unprofitable routes with very few passengers travelling. But to the government, it does not matter.

"We look at it as a service to the people. The question of a bailout does not arise," he said when replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Zahrain Mohamed Hashim (PKR-Bayan Baru).

Zahrain wanted to know the losses incurred by RapidKL and RapidPenang and the reason why both companies were bought over by Prasarana.

Awang Adek said RapidKL and RapidPenang incurred losses due to high cost of repair and maintenance of the buses.

"Through the takeover, RapidKL and RapidPenang would be more focus in running the operation and eventually overcome the problem of integrating the public transport system," he added.

  3. phone number to call rapidKL in case of emergency or feedback or complaint
  4. a clock

yeah..I've seen the TnG reader on RapidKL buses with the lit green light.but I'm not sure with the fare that the device charges from the TnG card.
my friend told me that the TnG reader is for rapid pass. i think they will integrate the rapid pass with current TnG.

last week/last few days he's installing the TnG reader for 105 buses at batu caves depoh.

I heard about that from Dato' Idrose of Prasarana yesterday...he's very much into Touch N Go ...

Also heard that the RapidPass will now be a 30 day pass using Touch N Go, not a monthly pass. So if you buy on November 14 it is good until December 13, etc.

just wondering what about the casual or irregular rider.

Cheers, m
RapidPass with TnG function, is a light blue coloured card, if not mistaken.

Anyway, if our country does move to EURO 4 standard diesel in 2011, maybe by then, our buses will be better.

I wonder if RapidKL has noted improvements from the move to Euro2 standards. They should have some data by now after 2 months of using it.
