Resorts World will bring a unique new offer to The NEC featuring a casino, hotel accommodation, a spa, conference and banqueting centre, a multi screen cinema, a wide range of food and beverage outlets and an outlet centre .

Resorts World at The NEC will be developed if Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council grants a large casino licence and planning permission to Genting UK who will own and operate the complex.

If Resorts World goes ahead it will have a significant impact on The NEC and Solihull:

Over 1,100 full time equivalent job opportunities - many for local people
Support The NEC’s strategy called “Destination NEC” to make the site a more compelling experience where people come to learn, be entertained and to do business

1,750 full time equivalent years of construction employment in building the complex

Contribute over £25m per annum in added value to the Solihull economy
Resorts World represents an investment and commitment of £120m to Solihull by Genting UK.
Resorts World will comprise a 4/5 star hotel and casino, a new conference and banqueting facility to be operated by The NEC Group, an outlet centre that will complement the existing retail offer in the Borough, a ten screen cinema , a range of food and beverage outlets, a spa and car parking.

Resorts World will be located on a prime site located on The NEC campus between The LG Arena and the Crowne Plaza Hotel overlooking Pendigo Lake.

The complex will be easily accessible by foot from the main exhibition halls and from both Birmingham airport and Birmingham International railway station.

We aim to create an imaginative new style of casino and leisure complex for the UK, which will be sustainable, with low environmental impact and designed for the future with a target to achieve a BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating and Carbon Trust recognition.

What will Resorts World at The NEC consist of?

Casino – Maximising use of the Borough’s licence opportunity, the casino will provide a product not currently available in the UK, including bingo, sports betting, poker facilities, high quality food and a separate VIP gaming area.

Hotel and Suites – The Genting hotel will be a 4 star 180-bed offering, situated above the resort with excellent views and high quality services. Additionally, 5 star suites will also be provided on the upper floor of the hotel.

Spa – 6,000 square feet of pure rest and relaxation, the spa will offer the latest treatments and give a holistic approach to wellbeing similar to some of our spa properties in Asia.

Banqueting and Conferencing Centre - This state-of-the-art multi-use facility will provide the highest quality banqueting for business and leisure, as well as being the perfect venue for a convention or company conference.

Multi Screen Cinema – A 10 screen cinema will feature the latest 3D technologies with digital processing and sound.

Food and Beverage Outlets – We will have one of the best combinations of dining and bars in the region, using both local and national brands in our mix of operations on site.

Shopping Outlet Centre – This mid-range offer will encourage regional tourism spending in the area and integrate with the other leisure facilities to provide a unique shopping experience that is not currently available.

The Design

We have used our unique strengths to ensure that Resorts World at The NEC will feature all of the benefits of an integrated leisure development:

A high standard of design and architecture appropriate for a 'destination' building.

Pedestrian access is maximised by minimal walking distances between site facilities.

Public transportation opportunities have been maximised ensuring easy access is available to visitors and local communities.

Effective traffic management policies is being developed.

Facilities for the disabled are fully provided (car parking, lifts, toilets, safe evacuation).

We aim to create an imaginative new style of casino and leisure complex in the UK, which will be sustainable, with low environmental impact and designed for the future. The aim is to achieve:
BREEAM ‘excellent’ rating

Carbon Trust recognition

The maximum height of the building is 43m (+134 AOD)

300 car parking spaces

Construction programme will take 18-24 months

The scheme will comprise:

A 67,360 sq ft casino including a VIP area.
The factory outlet centre which would cover 40 units, ranging in size from 1,500 sq ft to 16,000 sq ft and totaling 154,600 sq ft.
A four-star, 196 bedroom hotel over 120,150 sq ft.
A ten-screen cinema
12 food and beverage units.

Good development and a long time in the making.

Needs serious investment in transport infrastructure. The rail will be invested wit HS2 and monorails etc but the roads will be a nightmare.

Well someone said they think ground work/ prep works had started on site on the old thread, galliford try have been appointed contractors for a while now, I think it will crack on pretty soon if it hasn't already now it's passed the final hurdle in a long run of approvals gained

Personally I can't wait I think this is a great addition to the NEC and will so extremely well to attract people to stay over. I think we will start seeing a few hotel proposals close by too

Do they currently use the lake for sporting/recreational activities? I was thinking maybe they could create a leisure complex by the lakeside with rock climbing, obstacle courses, outdoor ski ramp, using the lake for canoeing and stuff

Amazing how world wide confidence is growing in Birmingham since HS2 with this untapped market at NEC ready for a major boom.
Expect many companies/business from Uk, Europe and world wide want to move to NEC area with the land cheaper than London.
Sure this will see a future airport expansion and another great boost for birmingham.

Designs look great and will hopefully mean the WHOLE NEC area gets redone to start to attract back the big conventions instead of London.

I'd like to see the Birmingham City Centre/Airport planned metro route extended to take in the LG Arena/ Resorts World and exhibition halls then on to HS2.

Just to add,

This will overtake aspers casino at Stratford city as the UKs largest casino when built

I hope the NEC group send out stuff to encourage people to visit this, maybe include a £20 free bet in the casino or something alike with every ticket purchase aged over 18 for the NEC, LG Arena, NIA and ICC

Good stuff, I am defiantly looking forward to seeing how this whole area transforms into a destination over the next ten years, now all we need is vital transport links to the city centre

Vital transport links to the city centre ?????

Come again, there are trains into BIRMINGHAM CITY CENTRE every 5/10 mins from Birmingham International and the 900 Bus runs every 15 mins too.

I think connections into the city centre are very good.
