Pictures of the rest of Miami and South Florida. Everything besides skyline shots and arials of Downtown and Brickell which are plentiful in the reast of this forum, this thread is for shots of the streets, neighborhoods, and basically just the rest of Miami.

I'll start it off with really simple shots, some from me others from the internet.

I see threads like this all over SSC and (imo, anyway) they are often more interesting than seeing basically the same skyline shots of various cities over and over.

Not that people here and elsewhere don't do a tremendous (and talented) job of that but I see no harm in exploring other areas...after all, it's what 90% of Miami and the surrounding area actually look like and where the vast majority of folks actually live.

Sure, skyscrapers will always be a focal point here and elsewhere on SSC but the site is NOT just about that. Otherwise, there wouldn't be threads about transit, infrastructure, stadiums, etc. But there are.

I think this could be a cool addition to the various photo threads here and thank "hialeah" for giving it a try.

Thanks Hialeah. Love to see pictures of the hoods around Miami. I am partial to 79th street/N.E. Miami as that is where I used to live but love to see it all.

Spell is right if you ever look at the Midwest threads you will see lots about small towns in the Midwest and people often do threads on row houses and older areas. I really enjoy those and I have never heard anyone complain about them.

It just goes to show how beautiful a city Miami-Dadei is,even when you are away from the glitz and the glamor of downtown and the beaches.

How many areas of the country do you see Coconut and Royal Palms lined in a neighborhood suburb?

Brickell...just so we can keep these threads from becoming unwieldy a reminder that it's not necessary to repost all the same photos from someone's post. Thanks!

Quick question, how can your teacher live in Marquis, when it isn't finished yet? But I'm with spellbound, it's best if we don't repeat photos on the thread so they don't get repetitive, thanks.

I think it is because it has that nice inclined wall on the staircases...
Nice. I love Miami. I lived there. But WAAYY too many cars parked in too many front yards. Not "urban".

is that the new school on Coral Way and 152?
No thats a new middle school in Hialeah on 92nd Ave near Okeechobee.
The one on Coral Way and 152nd is the same design. That is the new desgin they are using for Public Schools. I think they are arts based schools.
Sweet. This isn't the first time one design has been used for different schools. Take for example my old middle school W.R. Thomas. Its design is the same as Arvida Middle and McMillan Middle.
School design is like car models they change periodically. That is why you see schools that are similar in different parts of the county. This is the 2007-2008 "model."

Very true.

A bit of a tangent here but I remember back in the 70s in Miami when it seemed like nearly every public school got the same godawful paint job. It was this hideous green color (a gray-green actually) that was just painful to look at and they slathered it on without regard to any architectural details or aesthetic concerns.

Basically, I think the county just got a REALLY good deal on VERY bad paint and went crazy with it.

Anyway, I was lucky enough to attend one of the great, classically designed 1920s elementary schools (William Jennings Bryan in North Miami) that still dot the Miami landscape here and there. They include fountains and courtyards and have none of the "prison" details found in the later institutional style. Miami High and Edison Middle (which used to be the High School) would be two other examples of that style. I don't think we'll ever view education so romatically again---which is really a shame. Not to mention that maybe 5% of Miami even knows who W.J. Bryan was or why he was SO important in Miami's early history. Do a Google of that name and Miami and you'll find out why.

Anyway, here's the courtyard at Bryan. Isn't it beautiful? What a great place to spend your first school years.
