This thread is for all those road construction items we can get from within Kenya and where the project concerned is not big enough to warrant creating its own thread.
Like Kenyatta avenue project to start with.
Kenyatta Avenue Rehabilitation

A major rehabilitation is underway along the Kenyatta Avenue in the Nairobi Central Business District (NCBD) intended to give Nairobi a new face. The rehabilitation is part of KURA’s strategy to rehabilitate Roads in the city of Nairobi and other Urban towns to ease Traffic movement.
It is also aimed at improving the carriageway and Non-Motorist Transport for road safety. The project which started in May, 2012 is currently at forty percent (40%) is expected to be completed by 9th January, 2013. The Avenue is being rehabilitated by Samar Construction Company Ltd at a total cost of Ksh.114M. Other roads receiving the same rehabilitation include Eastleigh roads, Upperhill roads, Haile Selasie Avenue, South C Roads and Jogoo road among others.
Kenyatta Avenue with a length of approximately 1.5 Km is one of the busiest roads in the City of Nairobi and starts at Moi Avenue crossing Uhuru highway ending at Valley road. The scope of works includes; drainage works, installation of road furniture and markings, Maintenance of passage of traffic through and around the works and relocation of services. Other works include base repair, crack and pot hole sealing, fresh coat of tarmac, cleaning of drains, installation and replacement of gulley pot covers, installation of channels, kerbs and bollards, repair of steel barriers, road marking amongst others.
The new look Kenyatta Avenue will be safer for both pedestrians and motorists in line with Kenya Urban Roads Authority’s signature of safe and efficient Urban roads. The contractor has committed himself to expedite the works to ensure that the first section is completed by end of August, 2012. The Contractor has sighted high traffic volume necessitating working at night and seepage of water into the road from broken pipes as some of the reasons slowing down the project.
The Contractor has already completed construction of the walkway and open drains next to Uhuru Park and on a section in the Central Business District (CBD) next to Serena Hotel.

My sentiments exactly. By next year the project/s will probably be half completed and stall due to shortage of funds. :eek:hno:
Its probably the biggest road project given to a local company in recent times and i hope they redeem themselves to restore confidence in them from Kenyans.
Still Kundan Singh :nono:

If they are the ones who tarmacked Thogoto-Gikambura road then they can do 'acceptable' road but they can also be hopelessly SLOW.

When we fail to award local contractors any local projects they are masters of re-inventing themselves. Mai Mahiu - Naivasha - Lanet Road was done by HYoung despite the contract having been awarded to Sogea Satom

I think Intex Construction Limited will do Loruk Barpelo road despite the award having been bagged by an Indian Company.

My only hope is that they dont milk the taxpayer dry for a shoddy job.

BTW who else thinks Ring Road Westlands (the road from Westlands Roundabout down towards Nakumatt Ukay) should be dualled or at least redone. It's the most trafficked road in Westlands other than the highway and its in a deplorable state.

Is there enough road reserve?

Interesting piece on todays paper:Kenha is inviting bids for consultancy services for the following projects

1. Naivasha-Lanet(dualling) -55km
2.Bomas-Rongai-Kiserian-Magadi road(dualling) -104km

3. Ngewa-Ruiru-14km>>>Ngewa- Kibichoi -18km
4.Sagana-Kutus-Kianjiru -22km
5.Naivasha -Njabini -26km
6.Magumu-Njabini -19km
7.Mwambugu-Mamba -50km
8.Kapsoit-Sondu -34km
9.Kangundo-Mwala -21km

That would be an addition of 159km of dual roads and another 140km of rehabilitated ones which is a welcome development but you have to ask how Bomas- Kiserian needs to be dualled before some busier sections of Nairobi Mombasa road and how not even a single road in North Eastern features in that list.
