Here you can post pictures of the Russian Empire before the revolution.
I'll begin with some of the amazing colour photographs taken by Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii from about 1905-1915.

Ominous thread title..I presume these pictures are of destroyed areas then? :/
Nah, it doesn't have to be of destroyed areas. This thread is basically just for documenting what the Russian Empire looked like, although of course a lot of what you see will have been destroyed or changed over a century.

It might be interresting to do some before and after pictures of places that have changed a lot though. The town of Zlaoust is the first thing that springs to mind:

^^ Yep, from what I've seen the center of the city has been left fairly untouched and looks great, especially now that they've begun to renovate it. Of course there are loads of commieblocks on the outskirts though.

The first of these has to be one of my favourite photos ever. It looks like somethings straight out of a fantasy movie ...

The Nilov Monastery

Tver Oblast

After 1927, the monastery was used as a work camp for underage criminals, and later as a camp for prisoners of war, hospital and
retirement home until it was finally given back to the Russian Orthodox Church and reopened as a monastery in 1995.

This is what it looks like now:
