Historic Districts Review Board denies George R.R. Martin's request to build 'medieval castle'

Noted author and Santa Fe resident George R.R. Martin writes about the castles of Westeros in his popular fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire, but he won’t be allowed to build what looks like one at his 4-acre gated compound near Museum Hill. The city’s Historic Districts Review Board late Tuesday shot down a request to grant an exemption that would have allowed Martin to exceed the building height limit in the historic district where he lives.

Santa Fe City Hall project put on hold

COVID-19 has put plans for a new City Hall in Santa Fe on hold, but officials still expect the new building to come with a large price tag.
According to a list of capital projects for the city, that price tag is $40 million. The new building would replace the city’s current aging City Hall, as well as consolidate offices now housed in more than 100 city-owned buildings across Santa Fe.
