Santa Marta is a city and municipality, located in northwestern Colombia by the Caribbean sea and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains, capital of the Magdalena Department. Founded on July 29, 1525 by Spanish conqueror Rodrigo de Bastidas, the city is an important maritime port and hub for tourism, history and culture. It was named after the Biblical Martha and was the first city to be founded in Colombia and second in South America.

by the way...i have only been here once...but i had loads of fun there! Santa Marta is surely a place to visit once in your lifetime, like all Colombian cities. Too bad Colombia has such a bad reputation, a some people think is a country destroyed by civil war, which is way out of proportion...probably one of the countries in the world that is most underrated by everybody.

Santa Marta is a great place to visit. It is not as internationally known as Cartagena, but with nice beaches, mountains, and good hotel infrastructure too.

I love Santa Marta. The city, the mountains, the beaches and the sea are amazing.
. Its such a good city,even more knowing that it is the 12th colombian city.
