Dear guest. What follows next is a fragment of moments from history in the making, caputred on camera and forever frozen in deep wounds of atrocities that would forever change this once beautiful country.

The following photos are those of an appeal for peace and concerts in the name of peace for brotherhood and unity from citizens of every corner of former Yugoslavia. These peaceful pictures depict only a fragment of what Yugoslavia once used to be right before the tides of darkness that followed.

Cool, where do you get pics like that?
:(

It could have been that way too, if it wasn't for some external meddling.
:( :(
Oh man you shouldn't have posted this. I think most were people against the war, but a few extremists were allowed to stir up all the hatred and turn people against each other... :(
You remember those: Jugoslavija, Jugoslavija, Jugoslavija....!

Ahhh...:(
Wow, how many things would be different if this pointless war...
How sad! Looking at those old Yugoslav flags...ohh it's just so sad...:(
The saddest thing...you are looking at something which we can never again regain:(

^^^^Just remember Duckie-you're the one who said it.

Ti licno prosipas propagandu po forumu: "Srpsko ovo, Srpsko Ono"... Zbog tebe Mila nije vise s nama, ali jebi ga.

To sto si ti malo vise "ponosan" svojim Srbima, to licno ne tjera mene da u svakoj recenici naglasim " muslinansko Sarajevo, Muslimansko ovo, ili ono, jer postoji razlika izmedju vjere i nacije. Bosanac moze biti i musliman, i katolik, i pravoslavac, i jevrej i bilo ko.A srb je srb. I sta bi ti rekao nekom sto se vrati da zivi u (npr.) "Srbinje" umjesto "Foca". Pa to je toliko ponizno za sve gradne Foce koji nisu Srbi.

Pa da budemo fer, ljudi su stradali na svakoj strani zbog nekih ovnova koji su se borili za fotelju i to je posljedica rata. Ali sta vrijedi naglasavati koje je kriv sada? Sto je bilo, bilo je.

Budi realan.. I ja sam.

-E pa, kao sto ti rece: "a moglo je i bez toga..."

I wouldn't use the example of Kosovo, since its situation is exactly what Bosniaks are arguing against in the case of Bosnia. Vojvodina's autonomy is Tito's construct, and was removed in the end because it cost too much $$$.

I have tried to point out the double standard before - you can't argue that Albanians in Kosovo have the right to claim indipendence, if you don't recognize that Serbs in Bosnia (or indeed in Croatia before they were pretty much all cleansed, a taboo subject for some reason) where they constitute majority do as well.

'Who' started the war in Bosnia is also a pointless question, since there's plenty of blame to go around.

Obviously, Duckzilla's 'ko je ko' statement carries no weight, since the victims of the war were, as per usual, ordinary people. I doubt very many really wanted to see the situation develop as it did.

I do agree with you salvius-to some extent. Maybe I carried it a little too far. But wouldn't you agree with me to some extent? Again, f**k it. It's pointless. We're all in same shit now.
^ I would agree with you to some extent indeed, and would echo that these discussions are very much pointless. They say time heals all wounds, so I sure as hell hope that will be the case in BiH as well.

I just think it's sad that the dream they all had was broken by those dam Yugoslav "polotians". :(
Beautiful Sarajevo on the banner of skyscraper today, 'embossomed soft in trees'.

springtime greetings from glasgow.

space invader. :)
^^Yup, in the Golden Valley! :)

This might sound corny but I'm proud to see it up here for the whole world to see. Just 9 years ago the city was hell on earth and totally forgotten/ignored by the world.

However, it did overcome and the best payback out there that it's citizens could have at those who terrorized them for 4 years is to be back on their feet and let Sarajevo shine again in the valley.

You can destroy its buildings but you can't destroy its spirit!

@spotless:

There's just something about the place. . . . travelled in Turkey a bit, stayed in Bursa on a few occasions - there is a sense of something similar. I've never been to Sarajevo, my experience is just words and pictures.

said elsewhere on this forum but i feel the scale is right, the relationship between man and street, building and nature, city is not made up of vistas like classical or certain middle eastern cities but is a more montage-like, non-linear experience.

what does sarajevo mean?

i know saray (or is it serai?) is palace in turkish . . .

and spotless?

I'm proud for ya (and i know you don't need a smiley!)

ps. you know, i actually really rate that old yugo flag. s'cool.
