^^So glad to hear about this! More transit connections can only be a good thing. Now all they need to do is cut the width of that road in half, and Gangnam will have something to celebrate!

From the video it looks like they will build an island in the middle of the road, so it's volume will be reduced.

Will this cause much disturbance above ground like closing down the road? Also, these look like intercity trains, maybe KTX trains, is that right?

Personally I wish they built more overground train lines in Seoul and in this area. I think they add more to the urban fabric of a city. Pity everything is underground.

yes most of them KTX GTX etc high speed train

overground road volume will be reduced.
But that video primary simulation by seoul.
we have to wait more accurate design which international design competition

that island is 버스중앙차선 bus central non stop lane which is only bus moving(public mass)
So in other words it is not reduced but rearranged over ground.

Yes I agreed that. I don't like underground system. i like tram system moving ground.
But as u know people complain about over ground train's noisy. So most new train to built underground.(even more expensive to built though)

When this project completed then

-20 minute take from here to dongtan(now 66 minute take by bus)
-15 minute take from here to Geumcheongu home(now 60 minute take by subway)

I'm assuming that this project includes some kind of integration with the current Samseong Station of Line 2; how or where will that connection be made?

Breaking News

Korea government and Seoul Office agreed "Unified Develop of Youngdongdaero)
According to the report Ministry of transfer&land korea and Seoul make MOU at 31 Oct.
Project name is '영동대로 통합역사 구축·지하공간 복합개발' MOU "To make Youngdongdaero Unify Station and Underground space develop" MOU.

"As by this MOU contract this project keep going more fast. We will do our best to develop this project with korea government" say Mr lyu kyoung gy vice president of seoul.

P.S Seoul's task part : weeraeshinsa light rail transit/BUS transfer terminal/Air port terminal/parking lot/commercial&public cultral space
Government's task part : Sameseong~dongtan high speed train/GTX C line/KTX eujoungbu extension

It's starting to look more interesting now. Will the underground complex be finished before or after the main tower?
This project is going to finish after with HYUNDAI HQ project completion.
IMO This project 1 years behind with HYUNDAI SUPERTALL. BUT THAT IS maximum gap.
In short, these two project finish almost same

I still think it's quite a mistake to put all these facilities underground, instead of burying a lot of Yeongdong-daero itself, if they want this to be an attractive place for people to actually spend time.

They'd mentioned Shibuya or Shinjuku or Times Square or something as a model for what they want this place to be. Hopefully, somewhere in the planning process before all this gets underway, they'll notice that none of these places are centered around 12-lane-wide roads.

I agree with you on paper on the importance of having things overground. But I think that it's going to be hard to pass judgment before the selection of architectural projects. There's also a material challenge to having to build all these lines and transfer stations.


Yeongdeungdaero already has a lot of traffic and the street cannot see the number of lines drastically decreased. They could probably take two lanes away and maybe create a Central BRT line (which can not only improve traffic but help people go out and cross the street). But the chances of Yeongdeungdaero going below 8 lanes are slim I think. Plus with the transfer station, I guess more car traffic could be expected as well.


Some Bus lines will be underground as well (like in Jamsil or Gwanggyo), with ramps going up to street level. So that's another factor to take into consideration.


Connectivity with Hyundai GBC and Jamsil MICE has to be thought of as well. Overall this is a very complicated project to manage, and the current traffic requirements will make it difficult for the avenue to turn into a Korean Shibuya/Times Square.


But I'm very curious about the proposal from architects anyway.

^^But isn't it a major priority to de-emphasize automobile travel throughout the Seoul metro area? I get that the idea of Braess' paradox-ing your way down from a 12-lane road to, say, 6 lanes is a tenuous kind of thing to do, but there can't be any denying that having so much road available makes driving appear more desirable, and walking or biking less so. Especially given the increasing intensity of local air pollution, this would seem like a great opportunity to send a signal to the public that they'll have to play a part in solving the twin problems of congestion and air pollution.

Although, yes, agreed, we'll have to wait and see what exactly the architects and planners come up with. I just hope that they're ambitious.

Make New ground square 240m length 70m wide(35,000 ACCOMMODATION)
Make connected with 14 around building thorough underground

-630,000 PER A DAY using this station (450,000 train 180,000bus)
-Now ground car road to buried underground 480m! Among them 240m make square for concert/meeting/celebrate show
-COST $ 1.3 billions(underground project cost 40.7% HYUNDAI group will pay/bullet&train system 59.3%
government will pay
-estimate transfer walking path 107m and, 1minute 51 seconds
-1~2fl public library, museum, exhibition,administration supporting center for foreigners,shopping center,book store, cafe
-Above rendering is primary concept. It begin international design competition ongoing. and make this huge transfer station as world class art station.
-open space which allow sun light directly in to bottom. So station has underground garden&solar pannel in 3fl
-ICT smart station and barrier free&universal design apply

At the moment 6 global architecture team design this project
