Shanghai • Songjiang - China

Songjiang is a satellite town of Shanghai.

Songjiang District (simplified Chinese: 松江区; traditional Chinese: 松江區; pinyin: Sōngjiāng Qū; Wade-Giles: Sungkiang) of Shanghai has a land area of 604.56 km² and a population of 1,074,200 as of 2008. Its main town is Songjiang, connected to Shanghai by Shanghai Metro Line 9.

It was Songjiang County until 1998.

^^ It is an imitation project called 'Thames Town'.

Songjiang is the origin of Shanghai. When Shanghai was a small town under Songjiang administration in the 8th century, the land where the impressive Pudong skyline stands today was probably still under water back then. Now it is reverse. The district is a nice suburban area, and I love its historic sites (none of them is shown here). It is now developing rapidly, but there is still not enough 'skyline' characteristic there. This thread would be more appropriate in the urban showcase section. Nice pictures btw.

I've heard of these imitation suburbs in Shanghai. Isn't there a Canadian one called Maple Town, or did it get axed?

^^ sadly no Canadian Town.

All 9 new towns are themed: Swedish, English, Italian, Spanish, American, Dutch, German, traditional Chinese, and an ecological town called Lingang.

if not mistaken, this is one of the five suburban planning in Shanghai,

its something like:
Chinese,
German,
Italian,
French,
and.... dont remember...

five of them are located in different location within Greater Shanghai.

Correct me if i am wrong.
