Nicely done piece of contextual architecture.
Nice. This is just next to old st station right?
That's correct. It's on the Hackney side of the Islington-Hackney border.
This will be to the left in the first render if it eventually ever does get built so I guess the tower isn't that out of place. Having said that at the moment it would be rather alien to this stretch.

That ones seems ok, I can see what they're attempting to do by rebuilding the street line, but that stone square diagrid has been done to death by now. Somebody please bring in a bit of personality to architecture!

Done to death?? Really ?Thrres very little of this amongst the thousand of projects in London. I'd be glad if we saw of lot more of this kind of quality being built.

It's everywhere! And Eric Parry did this 14 years ago literally 5 minutes walk away which back then was new.

I hate the way it just looms over the street like a giant monolith. Why can't it step back as it increases in height? What many consider to be the most beautiful skyline of skyscrapers in the world - Manhattan - is stuffed full of buildings that step up (the result of regulations, the 1916 Zoning Resolution).

It doesn't matter so much when a proposed development will be surrounded by buildings of similar(ish) heights, but when it's so much taller than its immediate neighbours planners should push developers to setback.

Ah I thought you meant the smaller corner block. More of that would be welcomed.

Stone square diagrid is this decades 90's pink granite which will more than likely be replaced to whatever the style is in the 2030's
Yeah don't mind the corner block. It's a bit of a chunk but sort of works. Wish they had played around with the join lines with the yellow brick neighbours, that could have made quite an intriguing transition between the two.

Then you aren't going to enjoy these two other approved schemes in shoreditch by the same firm

Quite like the blakes hotel, albeit a strange location for a five star boutique hotel

Part of the Blakes vibe is discreet almost to the extent of disappearing, so a more tucked away spot makes sense 'for the brand'. The Soho original feels tucked away.

I'm ok to good with Kyson's architecture but it does seem like they build what they build, then play verbal gymnastics to describe how 'contextual' its design is.

The new Blakes does look like a lovely hotel to rest your head in.

Isn't that the site that was serving alcohol without an license or something like that?
