How about that Madi Grad land that open last year, was it sucky or good??

(My last visit was in the summer of '03)
sharptent, nice run-down of the coasters. I haven't been on Rajin cajun, superman, or V2 yet. I did get to ride Deja Vu when it opened and I was not impressed at all. It was very rough and in my opinion not as fun as other boomerang style coasters.
I rode an identical Superman ride at Six Flags over Georgia, its just a "fun" ride, but like you said not too many G-forces, except in the big pretzel loop.
Overall, SFGAm is definately one of the best Six Flags parks I've been to.

^ i can forgive deja vu some of its roughness through the loops because of those vertical drops (both backwards and forwards) that are shit-your-pants scary. it is a brutal ride, but its so friggin intense at the same time, and i kinda relish those super intense rides (in moderation of course).
I've never been on Deja Vu. I hear it's not worth it. I'll do the rundown list of the coasters I've been on and a few of the rides.

Viper This was the very first roller coaster I was ever on. I remember being terrified as I waited to go on it. I remember zooming under the wooden beams and being amazed that I was finally on a rollercoaster since I held such a fear towards them. I haven't been on it since that day, but it still holds a special place in my heart.

Batman This coaster is CRAZY. I was at Six Flags this past weekend and I could of sworn they sped up the ride since the last time I was there. Up-down-curve-corkscrew-loop-upsidedown-rightsideup.....it's insane. I'm always dizzy after getting of the batman. Thank God for Dramamine.

American Eagle Been on this backwards and forwards and I have to say backwards is definitely better. Actually, the first time I rode this coaster I went backwards so I had no idea what to expect. It was wild. I loved not knowing what was coming next and feeling my stomach unexpectedly drop at at any given moment and not knowing when a drop was going to end, making it feel like it could go on forever. It was scary and hilarious at the same time.

Raging Bull Who doesn't love this ride? It's incredible. THE drop is incredible. You actually run out of breath before you reach the bottom. I get excited just thinking about it. The rush..the feeling...the insanity of it all. Damn I love this ride.

Vertical Velocity Eh. This ride was alright. The only exciting part was the anticipation. And the very end when the ride stalls. The rest of it was just...o.k. Nothing spectacular but I wouldn't pass it up.

Superman - Ultimate Flight God this ride disappointed me. The first time I was gonna go on it, it broke down. Me and my friends ended up waiting in line for 2 and 1/2 freakin hours before we got on, and the damn ride lasted a minute. The next time I went on I waited 1 and 1/2 hours thinking I would enjoy it more now that I didn't have the sour mood caused by wasting nearly 3 hours of my life in a line, but the ride still sucked. Then me and my friends bought "fast past" tickects and got in line for the front row (had to wait a while though since it broke down again) but even then it was a let down. This ride had a lot of potential but didn't live up to it.

The Demon was alright but doesn't deserve a paragraph. Iron Wolf just gives me a headache. The Whizzer .... never wasted my time to go on it. Giant Drop was awesome but I don't know if I'd wait in a line to go on it again. Maybe if the line was short.

^ next time you're up there, waste your time and take a spin on the whizzer, it's a zippy little ride that's just pure fun. not super-thrilling, not shit-your-pants scary, not mind-blowingly insane, just good old fun racing through the forest with fun ground-hugging, highbanked turns and helixes.

sometimes its the expectations that ruin a ride. if you ride the whizzer expecting this super-thrilling experience, it will be a let-down, but if you just ride it expecting a zippy, fun ride through the trees, then it will fully deliver.

don't ever count out the whizzer, it's the sleeper hit of the whole park, IMHO.

Batman and Raging Bull are incredible.
I also like Demon because theres really no line ever.
Am. Eagle is a classic...more exciting than Viper.
Iron Wolf blows.
To scared to go on Deja Vu or Giant Drop.
V2 was freaky, but fun.
Superman....was OK.
The Skyneedle thing is cool..you can see the Chi skyline.

I remember when i went to GA, in 92 i think well anyways the first year that batman opened and it was the first ride the pops and me waited for and it was an 1 and half wait by the time we got off the ride the line was something like 6 hours and wraped all the way to the front of the park. This was also the last time i rode my old favorite Shockwave which now i could only imagine i would hate as the cars they use are too small for my 6 3 frame.

^and arguably the most classic.
i'd go along with that argument. the whizzer is the only roller coaster still in its original configuration that is left from the park's original opening in 1976. the turn of the century is still around in the form of the demon, but the major alterations made for the transformation before the 1980 season fundementally altered the ride, removing the air-time inducing speed hills and replacing that section of track with two vertical loops and the light tunnel.

i remember before superman was built, great america initially announced that they were going to remove the whizzer and place the new superman ride on that site. thank god management came to their senses and decided to remove shockwave instead. shockwave wasn't a terrible ride, but it wasn't a great ride either, and the park already had a superior arrow multi-looper in the demon. i know many will disagree with that statement, but i honestly believe that the demon gives a better ride than shockwave ever did, despite it's smaller height, shorter length, slower speed and fewer elements. my main beef with shockwave is that it just didn't "ride" right. the thing just seemed like an engineering mistake. arrow seemed to get lazier as their multi-loopers got larger (although i've heard that viper out at SFMM provides a FAR superior ride despite incorporating a lot of the same elements as shockwave, just with a modified layout.)

well, i'm just glad that the mighty whizzer was saved from the wrecking ball. ideally it would have been nice to keep both shockwave and the whizzer around, but since one of 'em had to go, i'm glad it wasn't the whizzer.

I must say I can't believe how many people don't really like Superman. I love that ride. I think the Bull and Superman are the best rides in the park. Batman is still great to though. I have yet to go on V2 and Deja Vu. Deja Vu has always been closed or broken down when I go.

As for Shockwave I did like that ride and was sad when it left. I think it started to lose a little as it aged. I remember going on it like 8 times in a row when I was little. The last time I went on it my vision went completely black at the peak of the first two loops. Kind of scary but I guess I still had fun. Maybe I'm just getting old now.

Man all this talk about Great America really makes me want to go bad. Didn't go at all last year. Can't do that ever again.

Thank God for the "Save the Whizzer" campaign. Local voices CAN make a difference.
superman - ultimate flight (2003): fun. not as intense as i had hoped, but i guess the very nature of the riding position is going to limit up and down g forces to a degree. it seemed to kinda chug along the course as opposed to tearing it up like batman does. either way, this ride is a tremendous improvement over shockwave, which formerly occupied the site.
I have to disagree with that, Shockwave was absolutely incredible. The first looped coaster I ever went on. 8 loops of high speed intense action, god I miss that ride.

Shockwave had 7 inversions, not 8. It's a near-clone of Viper in Valencia. CA and GASM in Jackson, NJ.

a train was stuck at one part of the track...ours wasnt. Had they not stopped our train going on the huge incline and got the other one moving....our momentum from the huge dive and loops would make us crash with the stalled one. The stalled one was stuck 150 + feet in the air.

The Mardi Gras land is just a themed area like the fronteir one. They got some smaller rides.
