Thanks Neil- looks like a good weekend in store. This weekend should be good too, with the Manchester 10k run being shown at 4pm on Grandstand. The city will be looking better than ever!

Sky TV today unveiled plans for Sky Festival , the UK 's newest and biggest free entertainment festival, taking place in Manchester in August 2006. The best of TV will be celebrated and brought to life in the first ever free public festival of its kind, conceived and produced by Sky TV.

From Friday 11 th to Sunday 13 th August, the Sky Festival will light up Manchester . With more than 25 TV channels hosting over 30 specially created events, Sky Festival aims to enthrall and entertain people of all ages and interests with a massive range of activities in and around Manchester 's most famous landmarks.

Offering something for all tastes and interests, festival-goers will be able to test their off spin at the Sky Sports Natwest Cricket Event, take to the catwalk and find out if they could be the Next Top Model with LIVINGtv, try your hand at reading the headlines with Sky News , watch breathtaking A1 motor cars roar through the streets of Manchester, journey through the jungle and the sea with National Geographic Channel, have their car pimped by MTV, meet some of their favourite kids characters with Nickelodeon, get active with Sky's Living for Sport and Dame Kelly Holmes or perfect their comic timing with Paramount Comedy's stand-up comedy workshops. And with even more great events to entertain, involve and inspire the Sky Festival promises something for everyone in Manchester , the North West , and visitors from all over the country. What's more it's all free.

Sky is working closely with the Manchester City Council , Greater Manchester Police and Manchester Transit Authority to ensure the Sky Festival runs smoothly, and works for Manchester .

Dawn Airey, Sky's Managing Director of Sky Networks and Channels said, “The Sky Festival will bring Sky's passion for the very best in entertainment to one of the greatest cities in Europe . We want this unique event to give something back to our customers and to give everyone an opportunity to enjoy unique experiences from some of the biggest names in TV.

Manchester 's thoroughly deserved reputation as a vibrant, passionate and culturally stimulating city makes it the perfect partner for the inaugural Sky Festival.”

Councilor Mark Hackett, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for Culture and Leisure said , “Th e Sky Festival promises to be one of the most high profile events in Manchester this year and we are thrilled to host such an exciting and ambitious festival as part of our events calendar. Local people and visitors to Manchester can expect a feast of engaging and entertaining activities to enjoy.”

Inspector Michael Schofield, spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police commented, "We can expect tens of thousands of people to go through Manchester City Centre enjoying the Sky Festival across the three days so there will be a significant police presence to ensure those attending have a safe and exciting experience. We have been and will continue to work with the Sky Festival event organizers to ensure that the event is controlled in a safe and organized manner and everyone enjoys what the festival has to offer."

No doubt the * signifies there is a £5 admission fee and you have to subscribe to Sky World.

P.S. Don't tell the scousers, they'll only get upset about more 'media bias'.
