Sky Tower for Birmingham?

Ok, I hated the idea of the VTP... but actually. I'm coming round to the idea. I'm in Auckland right now. The city isn't perfect but I reckon it might work for us...

Pictures soon. Discuss..

Maybe potential for the bt tower to be converted but I'd rather more tall buildings have a portion open to the general public like 103 will
A VTP in the centre of Five Ways island would be good. Next to the entertainment area and other high rise buildings. Though there might be too much residential in the area. The residents might complain about the noise.
The BT Tower must be almost redundant by now. I think it should be converted in to an observation tower / restaurant / nightclub.

I actually think this would be great. Together we a redevelopment opening the canal below it could be a nice addition and spur development in the area. I'd quite like a Museum of Birmingham, as in the history of Birmingham and the West Midlands, here. I think it would provide a good bridge from city centre to JQ and link up with the canal to BrindleyPlace and Mailbox, quite tourist friendly.

Thanks, LiverOdysea. If you don't work for Birmingham City Council, you should!!!
Ideally, that resi block over the canal would've been demolished, those office blocks would be replaced with modern offices and BT would make way for a 200m+ landmark.

But this is Birmingham, so we get shoddy refurbs and eyesore concrete stumps.

I wouldn't want the BT Tower to go. It's an important part of our history. Better to convert it into something else. A sky bar and restaurant would be great. There could be hotel rooms in the tower as well.

It's certainly not the most attractive building, but that's exactly what our predecessors said about Victorian/Geogrgian/Tudor architecture.
All the signs are beginning to suggest a return to the brutlist/modernist motifs, and a renewed BT Tower could truly be at the cutting edge of fashion.

It's also an intrinsic part of our history and prime for conversion into some kind of Viewing platform with redevelopment of the surrounding area.

There's an entire thread devoted to discussing future uses of the BT Tower.
