These are all from Pittsburgh's notorious Hill District.

This was once part of a grouping of over 50 very nice houses in 2 rows. One on each side of Dinwiddie Street. Drugs, and the resulting crime and disorder drove away responsible homeowners, resulting in this.

A solid wall of homes once lined both sides of this block.

New apartments rise on land shattered by the 1968 riots.

Even in very rundown areas there are still plenty of people who take pride in their homes. Note the one derelict house in the row. This could lead to the evacuation of the decent families in the other houses.

A densely built up alley.

A well maintained row of homes.

The large housing projects are being eliminated.

I don't hate these, but they could be better.

Older infill.

This block should be the centerpiece of redevelopment here.

One of my favorite modernist buildings.

The movie title comes to mind: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Looks like there's still plenty of folks holding on, but there's a lot of bldgs beyond hope in these pics. Thanks hero.

4 miles? Try 1/2 mile. This is adjacent to Downtown. As for where are the people, are you kidding? You can get your brains blown out if you take a picture of the wrong guys. At the very least you might get jacked for your camera by a drug fiend. When you shoot in bad hoods, you go where the people ain't.
