Isn't your country like burning right now?
lol - ease up!!. I am sure Soloman Islanders are really hurting right now to see what is happening to their tiny city.

Let's hope it all gets better and people learn to think before trying to fix their greivances with violence.

In terms of skyscrapers, there aren't any.Only some 5 or six storey buildings for apartments, goverment buildins and hotels. But i hope things will become better in the future.

I have been to the Solomans whilst I was in the Navy, and the locals are very friendly people. It's sad to see the sitiuation now, but with our soldiers arriving it should be sorted soon.

Unfortunately the Solomans, like a lot of small nations around the world have become pawns in the Chinese - Taiwan situation. Much like the Fiji - versus Indian Fijians coups, this situation is similiar, and Australia will have to tread very carefully to avoid inflaming the whole thing.

As bad maybe as this sounds in the post colonial world, the whole area, Vanuatu, Fiji and PNG included would have always been much better off to have never had independance and instead have become territories of Australia. Can anyone really say that the average person their would not now be better off?

Well, it's nice to see that there are also people in the Solomon Islands on this forum! :) It'll be interesting to see what the Solomon Islands looks like, and what new projects it intends on getting in the future. It's a pity there were riots going on, but hopefully Australian and New Zealand troops can help restore order to the civilians over there.

Well, that's an interesting idea, though if that were so, I wonder if the situation really would change. Migration from those "territories" to the mainland would probably still be restricted, so I doubt much would change with regards to that. Though, things would probably be more stable politically, and maybe even economically. New Caledonia is a pretty good example of this.

As crazy as that sounds, I fully agree with you. I feel Australia should govern the entire South Pacific, including NZ. Be much better for the region economically, politically (though may prove difficult which city becomes the capital) and geographically/socially. Afterall, the region has so many ties culturally. While NZ can govern the Polynesia region of the Pacific.

Please don't say such stupid things.

The Commonwealth of Australia has her own vast territory to govern. And what do you mean 'while NZ can govern Polynesia region of the Pacific' - I thought you wanted Australia to 'govern the entire South Pacific'.

This sites about the Solomon Islands NOT AUSTRALIA RULING THE SOUTH PACIFIC. If you want to talk about Australian Rule for everyone, come and start a thread in the Kiwi thread site - would be very interesting.

Rikko, would love to see more pictures of your beautiful islands and it's interesting capital :)

Solomon, Australia is doing their best to help you guys right now. In fact, it is quite possible that Australia and NZ will become one nation in the future.

Its been spoken about for the last 20 years LOL It might not seem a big issue to Aussies , but the Average Kiwi would rather jump of the Sky tower without a Bungy rope , than become part of Australia !
Of course Australia should help more in the region , the Tax that we pay could just about run all the Pacific Islands as well as Aussie , however these Islands should retain self rule ! Ha Ha what am I on about , the whole world revolves around Money ! :)

Pardon my ignorance but HK does not get any Pacific region news. So, what is going on there? And why is that rather good looking building on fire? :)
More pics please :) :runaway:

You're point being????????

It's a Beautiful Spring day in the former capital of the Empire that ruled Australia and New Zealand so well or not as it may be. In fact, I can see Westminster Palace from where I am working for HM Government - ah Empire and Commonwealth sweet smell of.........

I'm very interested in your ideas of regional rule. It's a big idea you have floated, the little guys need a bit of explaination before being taken over.

How would you see this working Killer?

Canberra with the lower house & Wellington with the Upper House?
South Island and North Island as seperate states within the commonwealth?

So many questions.....how would you convince the populations?
