Such a subtle tribute to Hugh Hefner that Manchester will honour his passing with another erection, with Freddie's assistance.
I could be wrong here, but to me the East face of the tower looks to have a stack of blocks design similar to this old Atkins proposal in Tianjin.

Looks like this proposal occupies that very bit of land you're on about.
I think this sits just behind/beside the pod - I'm not sure yet to be frank.
This reminds me of the Dollar Bay tower in London, looks great!

Also a tapered skyscraper roof for Manchester!

Yeah, it cuts around the pod. Forgive my appalling drawing skills:

Don't know what the soils are like and I would imagine its a logistical nightmare but I've always imagined four towers of varying height (not as tall as Owen Street but all certainly over 100m (highest probably 140m) clad in glass and brick on Chester Rd/Mancunian Way Island

Apologies for going off thread.

^^ something is defo needed to be done there, that roundabout with the Manc way is like an insurmountable barrier at the southern edge of the city that really should just flow seamlessly into Hulme and OT.

Sounds horrendous, and who would want to live there? it would be like living in the middle of spaghetti junction. I always wished the 'island' was turned into a massive water feature with an attractive lighting scheme that would make for an eye catching entrance/gateway to the city centre from Chester Road/Regent Road/Mancunian Way, especially at night.

I can dream.

To be fair, me. If I was 30 odd floors up.

Though it is totally unrealistic to have buildings here. Access would just be impossible.

A water feature sounds like a plan though.

Eh I live in CityGate 3. You barely hear the traffic with window technology these days.

Just found this from a search I did.

Approx 20 floors. Obviously an old design. You can see 'The Pod' and the back of St George's

I like this a lot too. This it would fit well over by Ancoats/New Islington/Portugal Street.
