St Philips Square: What a load of poo pants

So there I was enjoying my Sunday Stroll, when I thought, rather foolishly, "I'll take some piccys of Pigeon Park; that tranquil green oasis for which quiet contemplation and watching the world go by provides the perfect backdrop. It'll be nice and fresh this time of year, with our lovely cathedral nestling in the middle of it.

Fook me, how wrong was I.

It must have been day release from the local shelter - for twats, because when I arrived, 3 rather obnoxious looking rent-a-gobs, cunningly disguised as Big Issue Sellers, decided to hold a conversation with each other from either side of the square.
"don't tell them anyfink, they can't f***in' touch ya!"
Yeah, whatever.
No words can describe how I felt walking through the square - allow me share the experience with you through the power of visual commentary.

WTF happened to all the grass?

Is there a herd of cattle wandering loose, prerhaps?

The 1974 pub bombing memorial today - what a shame this gormless gimp wasn't caught and vigorously applied with a baseball bat.

The respect continues...

erm, emptying this might be a good idea, yes?

Birmingham Diocese now working in collaboration with the Factory - apparently

Our resident gobby retards talking the cops...or is it the other way round?

For the sake of balanced reporting...

At about this point I had to stop, as my eyeballs felt like they were going to roll inwards and puke into the back of my head.
Can I just say, seriously, that I was appalled at the state of this area. The place was remodelled, what 5 years ago or so? I have to say, it now doesn't look any different to how it was before; no, worse in fact - more dust bowl and not very green. Ah, but the railings are nice.
Doesn't BCC care? What about the local Diocese; don't they care about our cathedral being used as a free hoarding for chav fests? (or whatever)
Graffitti, litter, and general detritus do not a nice city centre make, and not least in this place. SORT IT OUT FFS!!

Anyone care to disagree?

No. I agree with you totally.

St. Phillips is in a bad way, and it always now seems to be occupied with screaming goths and skate boarders who seem to have no respect for other people, or the Church, or the grounds.

The City could do with building a skater park or something for these kids to hang out in. Weren't they going to do something with the middle of the Lancaster Circus island? What happened to this?

Once somewhere suitable has been built for the kids to go, I'd suggest returfing the grounds, and asking the council & Police to put extra streetwarden & PCSO patrols in there to keep the kids out.
I agree too. My brother came home in bits once after being chased by a bunch of subcultural lobotomy patients from the square to Centenary Square shouting "I'm gunna have ya!"

Litter is a major problem as well. It is one of the most scenic parts to the city centre and it is really going down hill. More bins and more regular bin emptying patrols would help. Also, I think there should be more police nearby to break up any rowdy youths. I remember going when they were setting off fireworks and then throwing them - I was on the brink of literally shitting my pants.
Thats terrible, when I was young Iwould never have desecrated a church yard, in fact I was too scared to walk off the path. When did todays yoof lose all respect. To think that they'll inherit the country.
This really p*sses me off - Its my favorite part of the city, yet all the emo kids complelty spoil it. I read in the mail a while ago that someone had engraved 'chavs suck' into a grave, yet can't the scummy person who did this see they are the same, if not worse as a chav. Im all for people using this area to relax, but there is no need to trash the place in the process. The council really needs to do something about this, and the police/community support officers should be enforcing the no skateboards policy more strictly - its a graveyard for gods sake, not a skate park! :bleep:
I am seriously pissed off about this too. It is bad for the city's image to have hordes of emo's, goth's and whoever else using it as a hangout on a Saturday afternoon. I am sure the church and the council can do something to move them out, but I guess it takes a little time to find out exactly what they can do.

The police are present quite a lot, and the kids don't misbehave so much now, but the police's powers are limited in this instance.

I get sick and tired of graffiti wherever it is, and litter, but the council don't help by not emptying the bins often enough, especially in this area.

I'm not a spoilsport - if they want to hang out then they can, but there are some suitable places (not many) and some highly UNsuitable places, and this is one of them.

Oh, and the grass - doesn't like St Phillips Square for some reason - it just never seems to take.

its all those goths and emo's that hang around there 24/7, climbing and walking all over the grave's.

with the hot summer we supposebly going to have, its going to look like a desert by the end. not pleasent

Ah but when chavs graffiti it's vandalism; when goths/emo kids graffiti it's their 'artistic output'. It seems lately the alternative kids are all too full of themselves and think themselves too superior to everyone else. Therefore everything they do is tremendous and people just don't understand them. Oddly enough the same argument used by chavs.

Frankly given how much people abuse this area I'd rather see them gate off the entire square.
It's quite a nice square in the weekdays, come weekends I avoid at all costs.

I do not find it intimidating, just full of annoying, loud kids. It's very similar with Wolverhampton and the civic centre and St Peter's. Dudley is different, you're either a chav, or middle class (which there are few of).

It's mostly the councils own doing as the kids have nowhere to go.
Frankly given how much people abuse this area I'd rather see them gate off the entire square.
It is gated, and I have seen them locked some days.

Try going to college with some of these morons. Bunch of fucking attention seekers. It really bugs me. Its constantly 'HEY! LOOK AT ME! I'M REALLY INDIE WITH MY PINK HAIR! I WILL DRAW LOTS OF LITTLE PICTURES OF SOME RANDOM ANIMAL AND THEN STICK THEM AROUND COLLEGE! ITS RANDOM, BUT HEY, ITS GETTING ME ATTENTION! ARE YOU WATCHING?!'

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so glad I'm leaving in a few weeks, and I'm so glad I didnt fall into the 'easy' trap of being friends with these people. My group are more simple. We arnt chavs, we wear normal clothing, but we get drunk and go camping without concerning ourselves with making an impression

Aww Accy , you sounded such a **** in that post  ( sorry im pissed )

Mr Glide thank you for bringing us to the attention of the state Pidgeon Park ( love the name) it is a fucking disgrace how these little twats can wreck everything on mass ,,, we have the same problem in Manchester with Catherdal Gardens ,, about 100 bratty posh kids from fucking Wilmslow beseige the place every weekend,, leaving it looking like shit ,,but nothing is done ,, Sign of the times im thinking :bash:
It is gated, and I have seen them locked some days.
By gate off I meant lock them and only allow church type people in. Wonder why they lock them off when they do.

Incidentally, seems appropriate to mention the best slogan I've possibly ever seen on a t-shirt:

I wish my lawn was emo, then it would cut itself.

To be honest, i could imagine nothing worse than an important city centre square like this being out of bounds to all but 'church type people'! I have't got time to explain now, maybe later.
You should punt a letter into the Post (with pictures)!

I know it's a bit crappy these days, but at least the fools on the council might read it and take note!
zero tolerance

i know a lot of people think its not politically correct but the only way you are going to solve this problem is through zero tolerance Last night on bbc1 there was a documentary about cctv and it demonstrated the power of cctv in identifying people who who engaged in anti social behaviour from throwing *** ends onto the pavement to youths who were caught brawling outside nightclubs and warning them through tannoys that they were being monitored. This was a project which was proving to be succeesful in middlesbrough..its about time birmingham city council took some action and got tough on these yobs !!!!
Last summer I was walking through and it was a disgrace, so I caught a couple of plastic police (CSO) and asked them if they were going to have a word with the morons leaving their litter behind on the grass, plus the under-age drinking. Their response: they couldn't prove these kids were dropping litter - to which I replied, well why don't you go and bloody watch them then? I then told the cops (loose term) that they were a waste of f***ing time (I was exasperated) and walked off shaking my head. I actually expected to get a reprimand from the cops for swearing at them!
Yes, I have noticed too, that obelisk had to be fenced off because those greasy haird zit faced punk goth twats were writing over it, and to disrespect the dead they sit on thier tombs and write over it. The other day there were some cretins skatebaording on the spire monument outside the library. have these knobs got no respect for history/culture and the reputation of the city other than thier 'Angry Lifestyle isolating themselves from society lifestyle'. I pity such small minded simpletons.

Definitely need more police round there, considering how close Lloyd House is to the Square. Wish someone would kick them all out or shoot them dead, I'm sick and tired of these whinging miserable skateboarding Manson worshippng greasy haired smelly zitty faced goths/witches.
Sprinklers. That's the answer to the grass and the kids.

don't get ya mate! shouldn't stereotype, you don't know the people who graffiti!

if i dress as a chav im vandalising and if im not, its my artistic output:S.
