Sunderland legends including Raich Carter and Bobby Gurney can be viewed in a new book – and in a completely new way.

Some of the Black Cats’ most famous yesteryear players can be seen in full colour thanks to the painstaking work of SAFC memorabilia collector Paul Days.

The Stadium of Light, home to English soccer side Sunderland AFC, will become a fully cashless venue ahead of the 2021-2022 season.

Sunderland AFC has partnered with Bleep (UK) PLC and Global Payments to deliver new EPOS (electronic point of sale) and card payments solutions at the venue where contactless card payments will be introduced, providing supporters with a simple and efficient purchase process when buying food, drinks and merchandise inside the stadium.

SAFC offers advice to fans still waiting for season tickets


Sunderland AFC has issued advice to season card holders ahead of the new season which begins with a home game against Wigan Athletic on August 7.
hris Waters, the club’s head of supporter engagement and supporter liaison officer has tweeted the advice amid concerns about new cards not arriving on time. He said he had been “getting a few questions on this.”

Historic SAFC medal sold at FOUR TIMES estimated value as part of £400k auction
A Championship winning medal won by a player from one of Sunderland AFC’s greatest ever sides, has been sold at auction for almost four times its estimated price.

The 1901-02 Football League Division One Championship medal awarded to Scottish left-back Jimmy Watson, had an estimated price of £5,000 and no more than £6,000. Eventually the gavel went down at £19,280.

This weekend sees the release of Ed Sheeran’s two dates at the Stadium of Light for what’s set to be a highlight of summer 2022 in the city.
Last week it was announced that the global star will play the home of the Black Cats for two nights on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4, 2022 – which will be a Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Ed Sheeran has announced he will play a third night at the Stadium of Light as part of his UK tour.
The global star revealed earlier in September that he will play the home of the Black Cats for two nights on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4, 2022 – which will be a Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Tributes paid as Sunderland Supporters' Association chairman George Forster calls it a day
The man who has been the face of Sunderland fans for more than two decades is hanging up his scarf.


George Forster has been a mainstay of the Sunderland AFC Supporters’ Association (SAFCSA) for more than 55 years.

News of his retirement is announced in a page of the programme for tonight’s Stadium of Light clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

Sunderland AFC legend Gary Bennett made MBE in New Year's Honours list
Sunderland AFC legend Gary Bennett received a 60th birthday prresent to remember – an MBE.

The defender turned radio pundit has been named in the New Year’s Honours list in tribute to his work as an anti-racism campaigner.

Gary was one of the first three patrons of charity Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) and has worked tirelessly to promote its message among football fans for more than 20 years.

Fans and former players pay tribute to retiring Sunderland supporters' association chairman George Forster
Sunderland’s players put on a fitting five-star performance for George Forster’s last game as chairman of the club’s Supporter’s Association.

George’s retirement after 27 years in the hotseat was announced in the programme ahead of last Thursday night’s match, which saw Lee Johnson’s side hammer Sheffield Wednesday 5-0 to ensure the Black Cats ended 2021 atop the League One table.

Sunderland AFC’s 1973 FA Cup legends are to be given the Freedom of the City.

Winning team members Dick’ Malone, Ron Guthrie, Micky Horswill, Dave Watson, Ritchie Pitt, Bobby Kerr, Vic Halom, Dennis Tueart, and David Young are all due to be honoured alongside members of the cup run squad Jackie Ashurst, Brian Chambers, John Lathan, Mick McGiven and John Tones.
Two members of the team – Billy Hughes and Ian Porterfield – have passed away
