We know that Stade De France has some sort of retractable seating which allows it to be used for track & field sometimes and football other times.

But the gap between the stands and the field is still pretty big and the track & field isn't particulary big.

Is there any stadium out there that transformes completely? Like say from this

to this?

Old Mile High Stadium was surely the greatest. A massive three tiered, 25,000 seat section of stands that floated in and out 150 ft. on an ultrathin cushion of water. I will try to find pictures or a video.

Aloha stadium in Hawaii would like a word

The stadium could transform from baseball to football mode without losing any seating capacity. There has never been another like it. Sadly it is now permanently locked into football mode.

Candlestick Park has a retractable section that seats almost 8,000 for (American) football. Here is the stadium before expansion, when they were first adding Astroturf (March 1970):

Here, beyond the politicos mugging for the camera, the expansion is just underway. On the right, the retractable section is being assembled for the first time on site (March 1971).

This aerial shot has the retractable section stored in the baseball position, when roughly 2,000 of the seats were usable. At the top of the stadium the new football press box is under construction (~June 1971).

The retractable section is fully used for the first time, as the Niners play their first game at Candlestick, August 8, 1971.

And here is the stadium as it appeared recently.

did they actually have retractable seating though? most just had sections that moved.
had always assumed the endzone seating was retracted back and the two sidelines rotated to make the line seating. Perhaps its just removed

The Superdome also had a retractable lower deck. Metrodome had retractable seating. Lucas Oil does. Cotton Bowl does. Almost every major NBA arena that can host hockey(and many that can't properly host hockey)
