Stamford - USA

Here's Stamford, Connecticut. A metro community in the New York Metro area, I believe. Located near New York and Boston, and home to such diverse and major american corporations like General Electric Capital, Xerox, Pitney Bowes, among others, and is also home to the University of Connecticut Stamford, and is one growing mini business city and possibly a little silicon valley with Xerox there.

City Population: 117,000
Metro Population (Stamford-Norwalk): 390,000

^ this was the only good skyline image I could find of Stamford.

I have seen some pictures of Stamford's downtown buildings, a lot of them look very modern and could have the potential for a good skyline, like in the picture above, if you look closely. Looks to be a considerable amount of density. I'll give it a 7/10.
Interesting, but could use some infill, I think. 6.
Stamford, Connecticut. An interesting city. Located in Fairfield County in Southwest Connecticut, one of the wealthiest counties in the US. Home to Greenwich, New Canaan, Fairfield, Southport, Westport and a number of other extremely exclusive communities. On a map, the uber-wealthy areas are basically in the southwestern "panhandle" of Connecticut that is predominantly Fairfield County.

However, in stark comparison to these rich cities, Fairfield County also has some of the poorest cities on the east coast. Bridgeport tried to file for bankruptcy protection in the early 1990's. I believe that a court ruled that the Bankruptcy laws did not apply to municipalities, but to people and corporations. Stamford is another one of these strange cities in Fairfield County (and really Connecticut as a whole.) While downtown Stamford does have many corporate headquarters, that left Manhattan in the 1970's and 80's, it is also a crime-ridden area. The residential areas that surround Stamford are very wealthy and there are (or were in the 90's) many exclusive department stores in downtown Stamford. You just drive your car underneath the elevated and windowless department stores, hand the keys to a valet and go inside the first floor entrance, where you can shop in complete safety. Later, just pick up your car and head back to Greenwich, Cos Cob or Darien where your 2 million dollar starter home awaits your return.

Based on its sheer strangeness and dislocation from its surroundings, I give downtown Stamford a 3. May you never have to drive by this hideous collection of ugliness. Try to take the Merritt Parkway instead of I-95!

Not very tall, but some cool buildings. Are those all residential BTW? Nuch much of a skyline, but I give it a 5/10.
Actually, while I agree with what Nick wrote about the class warfare and ugliness of Conneticut in general, Stamford has good arts/theatre and shopping for a small city and if you go a mile from 95 on to Atlantic St. you'll be in a great pedestrian friendly zone with lots of good quality eating and a bit o' charm too. Stamford could be a decent town if it played its cards right: it's the only place i'd live in CT.
Not only that, but Stamford stole Xerox from Rochester, NY! lol! There's a lot of hotels and office towers in there, but some of their heightage could be improved, and possibly addition of some density.
10/10, I'm quite surprised and impressed.
A fairly good group of buildings that are fairly tall, but could do with some taller buildings to stretch the skyline upwards and a cluster as many of the buildings are spread out quite widely.
6.5/10
I have to disagree with Nick in Atlanta. Out of 354 cities, Stamford ranked 25th safest in the U.S. For a city of over 100,000 it is one of the safest. Sure, Stamford has some bad neighborhoods but nothing like other Connecticut cities.

For the complete list of safe and dangerous U.S. cities see link below.

I'm not talking about Stamford's suburbs, which I know nothing about, I'm talking about the skyline and what I know about the downtown Stamford area. If you don't believe me then go there for yourself and walk through downtown Stamford during the day and then tell me about it.

I am not talking about the suburbs either. I am talking about Stamford proper. I grew up in Hartford and have been to Downtown Stamford many times and I have always felt safe.
Eww. (again) horrible pictures that make it look suckish. I like this city. it's so pleasent looking when you drive by. Their is lots of lush greenery and colorful buildings and nice churches. 8.5
Cities in the State of Connecticut, keep on SURPRISING me!!
I didn't know Stamford had a skyline until I saw one of these threads here recently. I like its low-profile scrapers, giving it a clean moderate look.
It gets an 8/10 from me.
