Lovely state....southern hospitality, more modern and progressive than the rest of the US realizes. Beautiful rolling hills, good southern food, great gambling, excellent roads, and beautiful homes. I love Mississippi. It truly is a great state with great people. It's also the fastest growing area for Metropolitan Memphis.

Mississippi is nice rural state with friendly people and a easy going way of life. My friends in Jackson and Diamondhead love it. The Natchez Trace is a cool drive that I would highly recommend. The MS coast used to be one of the most plesant and beautiful drives. Here's to hoping it regains it's old grandeur.

Some MS pics...

About a year before Katrina, I was able to spend a week or so along the gulf driving from NOLA to Biloxi and back. Haven't been there since the hurricaine. How is rebuilding going? I am curious about the status of the Jefferson Davis home in Biloxi, (Beauvoir). I understand that it has just reopened to the public after repairs. Anyone have any info?

The casinos are all back in operation, but most of the homes have not been rebuilt. This is mainly due to the fact that no insurance company will write a policy within 1000 feet of the beach. Beauvoir has reopened...in fact I think it was within the past month. It took alot of work to get the home repaired.

About 4 months before Katrina, I spent 2 weeks on the Gulf Coast in Biloxi...

I fell in love with that city. I met a lady who had recently moved from Tennessee and built a house on the water. She fell in love with the city as well... I wonder how she is doing.

Anyways, Mississippians seem very friendly but are the fattest people in the US.

I remember when I was there, they were doing restoration to the house...
Do you have any pictures of how badly the house was damaged?

I didn't get a picture of the damaged house. Everything was sealed off, so you couldn't get up close when I drove by in May 2006.

Here is a picture of the house provided by the University of Delaware.

There are some nice things going on in Jackson from what I've been reading.
