Exactly! Sardar Sarovar Dam is a frequently visited place. People often club their visits to the dam site by going to Swaminarayan temple in Poicha, Garudeshwar, and other small waterfalls (read Zarwani and Malsamot) in the vicinity.

The statue would offer a breathtaking view of the dam and the surroundings including the backside of the dam which you can't see from the current view points. The valley of flowers around the statue will be an added attraction.

The photos do not seem to be doing full justice to the grandeur of the statue. Only going there and standing beneath him will show the true size and scale of the statue.

And of course, the observation deck!

Can't wait to see it when entire area around the statue will be filled with water and they are also planning to start floating restaurants and yachts for entertainment...

It was progressing quite well. Just that people aren't aware of the progress. Also the photos that are posted are dated, so that doesn't give the right idea.

There are steep penalties for not meeting deadlines, and bigger companies generally ensure they complete work on time. It is mostly the small contractors who bid unreasonably less (money and time) to win contracts end up missing deadlines. They are penalized and go bankrupt, and the work remains incomplete.

Unbelievable that people can climb on statue like this, maybe it'll change once statue becomes popular, in the meanwhile, hopefully no graffiti and pan-parag marks! Scary!!

Exactly, with HSR it'll be more like a half day trip (assuming you live near BKC/Thane, otherwise the other half of the day will go into reaching the HSR station :p).

you can do that right now. take the shatabdi to bharuch, hire a cab to Kevadiya, come back by evening, take the shatabdi back
I'd rather take a tanga, my experience with Shatabdis, and with other trains, has become worse over few recent trips, one of them passed through Ahmedabad
Irrespective of that HSR trip will be a boon for those visiting the place from Mumbai side :)
