Hi All,

If anyone knows of any Street Vendor Associations or organisations within the greater Durban area, please send me details.

My organisation is looking to pilot a programme for early Jan and we would like to partner with an organisation currently working in the area.

Regards,
South Africa Manager - One Global Economy

Hi - Welcome to the boards!

Your best bet is to contact Pat Horn, who is the Durban coordinator for StreetNet International (an international alliance of street vendors headquartered in Durban, although its entire Executive Committee and International Council, bar one South African, is exclusively foreign. See: http://www.streetnet.org.za/?page_id=6 and http://www.streetnet.org.za/?page_id=52).

You'll find the organisation's Durban (and international headquarters) contact details here: http://www.streetnet.org.za/?page_id=40

Hi,

Thank you, it is helpful with insight into Durban trends, as I've been in GP until recently. (I realised a bit too late that this is predominantly architecture/design site)

I did contact Streetnet- thanks though -
However I managed to secure a meeting with Ethekweni early this morning - they have been very helpful.

You may want to also consider chatting to vendors / vendor leadership involved in the dispute with the city re: proposed Warwick Mall (which has been proposed by the city to replace the historic Early Morning [vendors] Market). A rough history of the dispute is in the Warwick Mall thread (in the Durban section)...
