Marubeni, Mushrif win QAR 683 million order for sewage treatment plant in Qatar

Marubeni Corp., Japan's fifth-largest trading firm, and its Kuwaiti and French partners have won a QAR 683 million contract in Qatar to build a sewage treatment plant and operate the facility for 10 years, the company said here Tuesday.

The contract consists of new construction of a sewage treatment plant, including its pipe network and pumps, as well as the operation and maintenance works, the Tokyo-based Marubeni said in a statement.

Marubeni will be in charge of supplying pump-related equipment, in addition to operating and servicing the pumps. A major Kuwaiti contractor Mushrif Trading and Contracting Co. will conducts the civil works and pipe laying works and Degremont, a major French water treatment plant firm, will manage the facility.

The plant, which is designed to serve for 200,000 residents, is expected to be built by the end of 2007 in a new city called Lusail Development Area that is currently under construction on the outskirts of Doha.

Further development on sewage treatment works would be expected in Qatar and Marubeni remains focused on the contribution on this field in Qatar as well as in the Middle East, it added.

speaking of contracts, what's BOT means? i keep hearing this word many times, especially in infrastrcture projects, and mostly in kuwait.
BOT stand for build oparet transfer
in arabic bena2 tash'3el t7weel :)
could you explain some more? & can you give us example?

i understand that the kuwiti group, alkhrafi & brothers, are building airport in egypt, under the BOT agreement.

Basically, (using my best knowledge in business since I am studying engineering) it means that your company is assigned a job such as building an airport. After you build it, you then manage it (get it going). After you get the wheels turning sort-of-speak, you tranfer ownership to the people who assigned you the project. In Khaafi's case, they transfer it back to the Egyptians. I hope I am right--please correct me.

I personally think that Madinat Al Hareer will be built because the inter-linked project Jaber Al Ahmed Bridge has been approved and constrcution on this should start some time soon.

About the kuwaiti Newspapers, I wouldn't listen to everything they say because they are known to crticize a lot :)

i hope so. but have you forgotten about your parliament? don't you think that they might object to the project, just like they did to the North Fields project?

The parliament rejected for an international company (e.g. shell) to develop the North Fields by themselves. They were objecting because they didn't want all the oil money to go to these companies. I think an agreement has been reached between the government and the parliament in that an international company will only manage the project but not control it.

I don't think that any of the members of parliament will reject this project that is if they want to be re-elected in 2007 :)

no such one can reject the best project ever will build in kuwait...
I swer god if any one of these reject I'll start a capaign opponent him (( wely y9er ye9er ana bay3ha )) :D

the big problem is the cosway they afraid from invairment get ruind.
^^But is the causeway nessessary, since not a lot of people live in the other side of the causeway and it takes less than an hour to drive regularly on the way. Shouldn't they spend the money on better roads instead?

PS. I love the way the threads starts shifting to Kuwaiti things. :) hehe
