SURIGAO CITY AIRPORT

cheaptravelforwomen.com
This airport started big on its terminal as compared to Dipolog and Pagadian who shares the same building type. Unfortunately, it has yet to receive an airbus service. It has accommodated commercial jet services though in the name of Asian Spirit and the short lived 737-200 by Airphils. Skyjet with its revived BAE-146-200 is eyeing to serve to serve this airport bringing jet service to Manila again. Perhaps this is the only airport in the Philippines closest to an intermodal terminal and a Gaisano mall to boot. For some reason, the infrastructure has only received trickle of national funds and not a single improvement on its runway in ages as focus was diverted to nearby Siargao. Thanks for creating this thread as we now have another interesting item for Philippine airports. By the way, there is also Tandag Airport down south which hopefully someone can post something about it as it has been dormant since the turbo-prop days of PAL.

New airline to fly to Basco, Virac, Catarman, and Surigao
by Cai U. Ordinario

MANILA, Philippines - A new local airline, SkyJet, will start regular commercial flights to underserved and unserved destinations such as Basco in Batanes; Virac, Catanduanes; Catarman, Northern Samar; and Surigao starting in the first week of October.

The announcement came on the heels of the recent decision of the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) to issue a temporary operating permit (TOP) to Magnum Air (SkyJet) Inc, the owner of SkyJet Airlines.

"Our vision is to be an important partner in spurring economic activity through responsible tourism. We sell tourism destinations, not airline seats. And so we partner with local governments who share the same vision of responsible tourism," Magnum Air chief executive officer Dr. Joel Mendoza said in a statement on August 15.

The airline, which uses a 94-seater British manufactured plane BAe 146-200, promises comfortable flights with snacks and comfortable seats.

Mendoza said the BAe Systems is the same model used by the British Royal family. Others using the BAE Systems aircrafts include British airlines, Lufthansa, and other Europe-based airlines.

"SkyJet will offer first class flying at reasonable prices. We don’t promise cheap rates but we assure our passengers of premium customer care in all our destinations," Mendoza said.
