KUALA LUMPUR (March 29): Capitaland Malaysia Mall Trust (CMMT) has budgeted some RM80 million to enhance four of its five shopping malls in Malaysia this year.

CMMT chief executive officer Low Peck Chen said approximately RM54.5 million of the RM80 million will be used to redevelop five retail floors of the annex block of Sungei Wang Plaza (pictured) along Jalan Bukit Bintang here.

"I must say that a sizeable AEI (asset enhancement initiative) opportunity at Sungei Wang is rare because of its stratified structure. It took us one year to plan for this AEI," she told reporters after CMMT's annual general meeting here today.

..

At the press conference, Low said the Sungei Wang Plaza AEI includes facade upgrade and interior design, retail space reconfiguration and accessibility improvement work.

Low said the five-storey annex block, which will be rebranded as "Jumpa", will see a net lettable area of some 197,000 sq ft upon completion. She said construction of the annex block is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2019.

Really should not change the name .....river of money is a nice name !!!
I think the Sungai Wang Plaza name remains for the whole complex... The "Jumpa" side is where Parkson and the old Cathay cinema used to be, i.e. the section sharing the back lane with Imbi Plaza...

also why did i see some open air parking on the picture?

they so rich until they can have the luxury to have some open air parking in BB? They should build something on those empty land like super big smoking zone or do some super modern and tacky extension of the mall. Maybe they could just install a big TV infront of the mall. Will have the Times Square feeling.

My sincere advice to the Sungei Wang, BB Plaza and Imbi Plaza owner.

The best way to revive these three shopping malls is to demolish three of them all together, as what BB plaza doing now. Let the land to vacant few years and let the shoppers / tourists feel bored about Times Square, Lot 10 and the true rival Pavilion, and that will be your glorious time again!

Once there is only one mega mall at these three pcs of land (including the vacant land for parking now, cross road of Jln Imbi & Jln Sultan Ismail), this shopping mall scale is about the size of current Pavilion and should be able to fight against Pavilion.

Build an underground world to connect the Bkt Bintang MRT station, Bkt Bintang Monorail station to connect with Times Square as well as Imbi Monorail station. Remember, the future BBCC is going to bring in huge number of shoppers and tourists to Times Square. And this golden location is just right at the middle of BBCC and Pavilion!

Please! Think with a bigger picture and think further what and where you guys (shopping mall) heading to. Don't just keep on renovating without a clear direction where you are heading to. The ceiling height of the building can't just make me want to revisit the mall. So as well the toilet and the narrow walkway. Please, don't waste time and money for renovating, there will be another 10 years for another renovation.

Eventhough i like ur ideas, but i feel its important for them to keep that Sungei Wang aesthetic but updated without losing its true identity,i mean Pavilion-scale shopping mall already in construction nearby (Lifestyle Quarter,BBCC,PNB mall)...a bit of old charm like Sungei Wang wouldnt hurt.....but if suddenly they want to demolish the whole thing and create another Roppongi Hills,i wouldnt complain either......

The open air parking lot is not part of Sg Wg/Jumpa. Currently it is just a parking lot and turn to food truck business at night. Ho Wah Genting has a proposal for the lot:

Lol, that open air parking is the empty land next to Imbi Plaza lah, and definitely not one that belongs to the Sungei Wang Plaza owners... And looks like that familiar long staircase at the side of the building (which was the exit for the former cinema) is being kept as part of the rehabilitation project?
