OFFICE TOWERS

thought id dedicate this thread to the office tower. which seems to be a rarity these days.especially 200m+
up until 20 years ago, this is about all the skyscapers which were being built. tall resis belonged up at Surfers

The tall residential tower seems to have taken over post 2000
Sydney still is producing big office bldgs and tall (200m+).
Spires/antennas aside, the tallest office tower remains Rialto now over 30 years old! some have reached higher with spires but none have reached 250m.

Adelaide's tallest is the humble old Westpac House. While it will lose it's title of the tallest building in the city by 2020, it will probably be our tallest office building for a long time to come. Currently the Station Rd Tower at 108m, is the tallest office proposal that isn't mixed use.

With all the tall residential and hotel towers going it up it is easy to overlook the significant amount of office tower construction going on at the moment:

80 Collins Street (u/c, 187m, 36l)

311 Spencer Street (u/c, 171m, 42l):

Olderfleet (u/c, 165.55m, 43l):

405 Bourke Street (Leased to NAB construction to start soon 156m, 39l):

Wesley Place (u/c 148m, 36l):

Melbourne quarter tower (approved 134m, 30l):

My cousin just overheard person behind
"I just heard about this Melbourne twin office somewhere 70 levels I don't know where put it? oh I think both go to 280 metre I guess and 4 Billions dollars for office?"
Thank my cousin who put note while listening someone
Look like won't get two 70 levels in one decade
Probably just idea too early discussion about this... no thread for now
I'm not a fan. The Rialto Towers is such an iconic timeless building that screams 'Melbourne'. It would be a shame to see it blocked from the Yarra River, even partly. Easily one of the best buildings in Australia.

80 Collins and Wesley Place look fab though.
yeh i agree Rialto does look good from its total seamless elevation, but if this is taken away and just seen top section sort of defeats the purpose. bugger cant do much about it

regarding new office towers for melbourne. I like 80 collins but its forming part of a 180m wall and wont be able to show its design off.
Wesley place is my fav. wow, so good complementing wesley church

Not just you, a few of us in the Victoria forums noted this as well. But, that view indeed will be going away (sadly).

Rialto was designed around 1981/1982, still a great looking building all these years later.

Missing from that pic will be the upcoming 204m Collins House (to the right of Deloitte Olderfleet) and Collins Arch (about 145/150m). Basically a lot of density coming soon around Rialto including 555 & 600 Collins as well.

with the smaller UC projects of Collins Sq Tower 5 and 839 Collins St (21 level anz) not on the list but still sizeable does this mean Melbourne is ahead of Sydney in Culs precious office space construction stats???
It's not even close. Melbourne has about 300,000m UC while Sydney has about 150,000m. Brisbane has apporx 80,000. Melbourne CBD will soon overtake Sydney CBD for available office space.
