The hot topic for today in the state election campaign is the Liberals' announcement that they'll build a cable car to the top of Mount Wellington in Hobart. I gotta admit - this is one topic I'd have NEVER come up with

There's been various cable car plans for the Gold Coast Hinterland for a decade. Many more tourists and more likely to be viable, and likely easier to build as resources are nearby. Despite that, still very little progress.

What's the actual source here? Is it a decades old article?

The Mt Wellington cable car proposal is a private development and isn't being proposed or built by any government.

The last big news was that the bill to acquire the land from the council (and subsequently lease it on a commercial basis to the cable car company) was passed through parliament with support of both Labor and Liberal parties.
