First affordable housing held a public lottery

Tel Aviv's two affordable housing public schemes, the first such initiatives by the city council,
conducted a public lottery among 177 candidates for the 77 apartments with controlled rent,
which will save 2000 shekel on rent of similar properties. The applicants had to meet a number
of criteria and choose designated applications for singles, couples and families. The apartments
are in two housing developments, that will be move-in ready by next month, In Tel Aviv's East Side
Shapira neighborhoods. According to the municipality the city is in process for approving 2,600
affordable housing units in total, to be built on city properties. Affordable housing is expected to
make up 10% of Tel Aviv's annual development budget.
