Residents pick Hill for Tower Hamlets estate regeneration

Housing developer Hill has been selected to lead the regeneration of the Teviot Estate in Tower Hamlets.

Poplar Housing & Regeneration Community Association (HARCA) has appointed Hill as joint venture partner to for the east London scheme, which could include more than 2,500 new homes as well as new open spaces, shops and community facilities.

Hill was effectively selected by the residents themselves. On an 81% turnout, 86% of residents backed proposals for regenerating the estate in a ballot last year. Since then, a steering group of residents and an independent advisor have led the procurement process to select a preferred developer from five initial bidders.

I agree, this stretch of the A12 is a nightmare and a complete blight. Ideally it would be buried but that is unlikely. What is peculiar is that there is space on the site running parallel to the A12 to create a buffer between the buildings, instead the buildings are right up against the road. If this was a case in how to expose as many new residents as possible to noxious emission, this certainly does the trick.
