I always thought it was Juneau, which is wrong (as of 2000).

Sitka, Alaska is # 1. 4,811.5 mi²
Juneau, Alaska is # 2. 3,255.0 mi²

3-5 I don't know (or care, frankly).

Jacksonville is largest in the lower 48. 758 mi²

I wonder what the smallest is?

I don't know where you got that list of smallest U.S. cities, but I know that those definitely aren't the smallest. Michigan alone has 14 cities and 127 villages smaller than 1 sq. mi.

The smallest incorporated cities in Michigan are:

1. Clarkston - 962 - 0.46 sq. mi.
2. Petersburg - 1,157 - 0.46 sq. mi.
3. Keego Harbor - 2,769 - 0.51 sq. mi.
4. Sylvan Lake - 1,735 - 0.52 sq. mi.
5. Pleasant Ridge - 2,594 - 0.57 sq. mi.
6. Harrisville - 514 - 0.62 sq. mi.
7. Grant - 881 - 0.65 sq. mi.
8 .Carson City - 1,190 - 0.71 sq. mi.
9. Parchment - 1,936 - 0.86 sq. mi.
10. Pinconning - 1,386 - 0.87 sq. mi.
11. Coloma - 1,595 - 0.90 sq. mi.
12. Montrose - 1,619 - 0.91 sq. mi.
13. Reading - 1,134 - 0.98 sq. mi.
14. Whittemore - 476 - 0.99 sq. mi.

Maybe those are the smallest cities with a population over 10,000?

Look at the highlighted cities. What kind of numerical order is that? Reverse polish?

im australian and i was under the impression that US cities were huge. eg San Fran. 764,000. I thought that millions lived there. is that just like a central city council not including the surounding towns and cities that form the metro????

if they are total pops, then the five of australia's largest cities would make it in your top 10.

Syd - Metro 4.5 million
Melb - Metro 3.9 Million
Bris - Metro 1.9 Million
Perth Metro 1.4 Million
Adelaide Metro 1.1 Million
