I thought it was £20bn.... whichever it is, its a ridiculous price. Howcome Alistair Darling didnt ask to cut costs on this.
Trammy don't get me started mate. This will be looked at in history as such a false economy.Trammy said:I irony is in 2002 Crossrail was costed at £10bn (see the link), he is now saying that the cost will be £15bn to £16bn as construction will not start until 2007.
Metrolink Phase 3 cost £520m in 2002, it will now cost a lot more in 2007 (when construction is likely to start) - has the government said that the money will be found for the Metrolink extension - NO, we still have been given the 2002 figure of £520m - the question I would love anyone from London to answer, who thinks that London gets a bad deal in such circumstances, is why it appears the London money is going up with inflation, yet other schemes such as Manchester, Leeds, Portsmouth and Livrepool have been cancelled under similar circumstances?
Why pay for maybe three underground lines when you could have a tram network connecting all your major population areas, an inner city network and even a high speed orbital line?Leeds No.1 said:I think if any city had a budget of £20bn, they'd spend it on getting a much more advanced transport network than a tram!
And so it should with a ridiculous cost like that!Englishman said:I just have a feeling crossrail wont happen unless London pays for it through f'ing council tax.
How much do you reckon it'd cost to put tram lines linking all the towns in Greater Manchester to the city centre and two higher speed orbital lines, one near the ring road and one a bit further in?Trammy said:With £15bn, you could build all the planned light rail systems all the provincil cities want several times over -and have a few £bn left over.
£16,000,000,000 that is an awful lot of money, think about how much that actually is, how much each person in this country will ever see in their live times, and this will be spent on ONE project in ONE city!!!
