JOHN HANCOCK TOWER (BOSTON)
We chronicle the inception, design, and construction, of the John Hancock Tower, which is celebrated today as one of the great 20th-century American skyscrapers. New England's tallest building is an ambitious 62-story skyscraper. For years the tower was plagued with problems during construction in the 1970s. But ingenious engineers and architects developed cutting-edge technologies to correct these problems, and the building was revealed to be compellingly beautiful.

Ahh the Plywood Palace. I've always thought that was an interesting building. I like how it "disappears" in the skyline at certain angles.

It's interesting that the building required strengthening not in the short direction like one would think, but in the long direction. Most people were not aware of this. They only know about the windows popping out which was solved by the introduction of tuned mass dampers at the top.
