Also how you know over Primark refurb Voldie, seems quite quick that.
Hi Flange.

It says here; http://www.eicltd.com/case-studies/ebs/primark.htm (company which is carrying out the refurb) that it'll take 20 weeks. I tracked this back to December when they initially started the smaller aspects of the refurb. 20 weeks = approximately 5 months, so 5 months on from December lands us in May.

I am pretty sure that is an old refurbishment of the retail space, there would not be a case study online yet off a live project.

This refurbishment is being handled by ISG http://www.isgplc.com/home/default.asp
Good God, it was the first link on Google!

So we don't actually know yet when the refurb will be complete?

No not sure yet on when the refurb will be complete, I only enquired as it is a huge store to refurbish on all three floors, with new shopfronts and re-alignments of some shopfronts too, along with a possible new atrium to be complete within 20 weeks.

Okay I'll edit it and remove it for now but put it back up when we learn a bit more :) thanks flange

If people know of any other projects I haven't mentionned (anything from huge office blocks to maybe small cafes that a mate of yours is opening in the city centre) then please let me know and I'll pop it on the monthly update.

Also I'd be very interested if anyone could let me know the start construction & completion dates for the following projects as I've not been able to find them myself;

- Exchange Quay Office/Hotel scheme.
- Primark (Piccadilly) refurbishment.
- Erie Basin office block (if approved this week)
- Harbour City apartment tower (if approved this week)
- Fish Dock Site (when will this be put forward to the council?)
- The conversion of Nobles Amusements at Piccadilly Gardens to a Travelodge, when will this start/finish?
- MotelOne, Piccadilly - when will this go to council?
- When will the decision be made as to whether or not platforms 3 & 4 at Salford Central Station will be used for the electrification of the Victoria to Liverpool line?
- When will Peel release the documents outlining the further phases of Salford Crescent masterplan?

Thanks in advance to everyone!

Will be updating this this time next week (Feb 29).

March and the rest of 2012 look to be very exciting, a lot more projects have been added since my last update at the start of January. The summer months are definitely ones to watch; April too.

Stay tuned!

In light of the end of this month (Feb 2012) we'll take a look back at this month. As I said above, this thread will be updated on Wednesday Feb 29 with the details of March's projects (and there's a lot!)

So, at the start of February I "predicted" (even though it wasn't really a prediction) the following;

February 2012*

- Virgin Money will open on King St*
- Chethams' School of Music; construction will complete however the building won't open until April*
- On the 14th, Jamie's Italian Restaurant will open in the old HSBC "island" building on/near King St.*
- Work will start on the recladding of the tower blocks in Islington, Salford (the two tower blocks which can be seen from Chapel St as you enter the city centre)*
- From the 24th February until the 4th March, they'll be a Manchester History Festival in the Town Hall.*

- Virgin Money, on King St. Opened a few weeks ago.

- Chetham's School of Music external construction now largely complete. They've reported recently that they'll be adding external "Chethams School of Music" signage soon. Internal fitting out will take until April, when the building will eventually open.

Jamie's Italian Restaurant opened on King St on the 20th. It's recieved some pretty good press, too!

Recladding of Islington Tower Blocks; not too sure if this has started or not yet? Could anyone fill me in?

Manchester Histories Festival began on Friday with some pretty interesting exhibitions. Finishes on March 4th, the day before Victoria St off Deansgate is pedestrianised.

Currently, about June 2012, commissioned in 2017 (with the Chord). re-modelling Salford Central isn't a core objective of the Electrification, but it may be a requirement of the Orsall Chord.

Thanks Joseph I'll add that in :)

MARCH 2012 UPDATE

Well, February flew by. We're now on the threshold of March; which promises to be a good one! Here's the projects list for the next month here in Manchester;

March, 2012

March 5th - The top end of Deansgate will become pedestrianised. Cars from Bury & North Manchester will be diverted down Chapel St and a new road created through Greengate.

March 6th - MIPIM. More information on new phases at Spinningfields due to be announced.

March 6th, 7th and 8th - MIPIM.

March 21st - The Budget. The fate of Northern Hub will be decided. Possibility of new projects in Manchester being announced like last year with Ordsall Chord.

March 22nd - Mary Portas due to open her concession at House of Fraser/Kendals

March 26th - Stalybridge Station - remodelling commences. Closure of bay platform at the station. Completion due November 2012.

March 31st - Spinningfields to Salford Central bridge will open to public. Landscaping complete too.

More events without precise dates, but which are due to be happening this month;

- The Co-op application will go in for the refurbishment of Hannover Building near Victoria. 107,000 sq ft of office space due to be opened up as part of the NOMA/Angel Square development.

- The BBC will launch MediaCityUK tours, towards the end of the month.

- Peel due to submit plans for MediaCity phases 2 & 3

- They should be releasing plans for the wider Spinningfields development on the Salford side. This is advertised as "early spring", and in that respect I reckon it'll probably tie in with MIPIM on the 6th, 7th, and 8th.

- Metrolink was initally due to open to Central Park this month. Leaving this here for reference.

- Advertised as early Spring - Tesco in Old Trafford gets underway :)banana:)

The rest of the year!

2012 was always due to be exciting; and my timeline says no different. Here's what I have so far;

April, 2012

No exact dates for April just yet

- Chetham's School of Music new extension in front of Victoria station will open.

- The Demolition of Elizabeth House in St Peter's Square will be complete. Construction of Number 1 St Peter's Square will commence not long after. (probably May, or something).

- *Guesstimate* - Exchange Quay/Ordsall towers start construction.

- Planning decision is expected at First St, and new Melia Hotel construction is due to begin.

- Lego City Forest Pursuit due to open at Legoland.

- 53N Investors due to have completed refurbishment of grade 2 listed building on King St, opening up 31,000sqft of office space.

- BBC Breakfast will start broadcasting from MediaCityUK

- The Wheel in Exchange Square will disappear.

- Chill Factore - new "Play Factore" facility will open. It's basically like Wacky Warehouse, but with a 50m zip wire and the UK's longest silide.

- Planning application for full refurbisment of Victoria Station will go in. Funding already given. Advertised as "Spring 2012"

- Plans/Permission on whether or not City Wharf in Central Salford can be demoed in order for a new 12 storey hotel and office complex to be built.

May 2012

- Work will start on Piccadilly Gateway refurbishment scheme.

- Dr Martens due to open on Market St

- Indigo Hotel and Marco Pierre White Restaurant, Victoria - construction will start.

- Le Relais Entrecote restaurant opens on King St. It'll be the first LRE restaurant outside of New York and London and'll feature a new French style of dining.

- Construction of Number 1 St Peter's Square due to start.

June 2012

June 4th - The Great Manchester Cycle. A new annual event whose route will include the Mancunian Way.

June 16th, 17th and 18th The Dalai Lama will visit the city and make speeches at the MEN Arena.

Other events in June without precise dates;

- The National Football Museum at Urbis will open. Originally due to open in March.

- Metrolink (was) due to open to Droyslden. Not sure that this is the case anymore, leaving this here for reference or if there will actually be trams in Droylsden by June. Advertised as Summer 2012.

- Every member of BBC staff due to moved up will now have moved up.

- Stone Roses Concert in Heaton Park. Pretty big.

- A decision will be made as to whether or not platforms 3 & 4 at Salford Central should be utilised for Victoria-Liverpool electrification. Courtesy of Joseph_Locke.

July 2012

- Etihad call centre opens at the Airport with the creation of 160 jobs. Etihad have recently announced that they'll be setting up their European headquarters here with the creation of 600 jobs over the next 5 years.

- The Government is due to start licensing local TV stations. Manchester will have one. They won't actually start broadcasting in July, this just means they have permission to broadcast, or something. The first local TV stations will start broadcasting "in 2013".

- Greengate Plaza and new bridge due to be complete.

- Metrolink due to open to Rochdale. As with the other Metrolink news, this may not be accurate due to further delays.

- All Star Lanes will open in the Great Northern. Advertised as Summer 2012.

- Publication of HLOS2 and statement of funds available.

August 2012

- Metrolink Airport Line - bridge due to go in where the line crosses the Mersey at Jackson's Boat.

- Islington Tower Block reclad complete, Salford Crescent.

- Co-op Headquarters at 1 Angel Square complete & open. Rest of phases might have been announced/approved by now.

- "Summer 2012" - work will start on the Belle Vue Aces Speedway.

- Cypress Place, Green Quarter. Final fit out of 215 apartments here.

September, 2012

- 17 New Wakefield St complete & open for new University year.

- Electrification works begin on Victoria-Liverpool-Blackpool-Preston lines. Maybe the Leeds line, too?

- Motel One Hotel opposite Piccadilly. If approved, construction will start this month (following demolition of building currently on site)

- MMU Business School and Student Hub - complete.

- MMU Arts Building - complete.

- *May not be accurate - New Bailey/Salford Spinningfields; "Reserved matters submitted". Does this imply that planning permission will be submitted?

October 2012

- The first few employees due to start moving into Co-op headquarters. Not too sure why it takes 2 months from completion in August to employees finally moving in, but this information is gathered from various news articles.

- "Enabling works" for phase 2 at First St will begin.

- Peel due to release detailed Port Salford planning application/documents.

- The roadworks and landscaping on Chapel St will be complete. Phase 2????

November 2012

November's filled up quite a bit since last month's update when it was empty!

- Piccadilly Station - new mezzanine level with 3 new restaurants and a bar, will open. Advertised as Autumn 2012.

- Fabrica office and hotel development in Ancoats will be complete. 21,000 sq ft of office space and a 150 bed Accor Hotel. At first I was doubtful this would be completed so soon but they're really cracking on with it.

- Stalybridge station remoddeling complete.

- Tracks due to start going down on the Airport line, which will eventually open in 2016.

December 2012

- All 4 new 11 car Pendolinos will start service (how long are they currently?)

- *Before Christmas*- Tesco Superstore at Old Trafford due to open.

- Victoria station - new roof and redevelopment works will begin.

- Metrolink due to open to Mumps temporary. This is the current date.

- WMCL Franchise will be relet.

- New December Transport Timetable; extra hourly service from Stalybridge to Victoria, then beyond to Wigan and Southport. Morning services will now start calling at Littleborough and Mills Hill. A new Victoria to Leeds evening service will also be added.

An exciting year with plenty to talk about on here, I'm sure you'll all agree :)
