Monocle chooses Bangkok for its first real estate project
But it won't be called Monocle.
By Kasidit Srivilai | Nov 13, 2017

After naming Bangkok one of world's most inspiring cities in a recent article for the Financial Times, it's little wonder that Monocle founder Tyler Brule has chosen Bangkok for his brand's first real estate project.

In league with local property developer Sansiri (which now owns a 12.5% share in Monocle), the founder of the trendsetting media company plans to build a luxury condominium here that will spearhead a new, as-yet-unnamed real estate brand, according to the Guardian.

Recently interviewed by the British newspaper, Brule revealed that the project would look to turn into reality the decor tips and tasteful lifestyle espoused by his magazine.

This sounds reasonable enough since last week Brule and his team just flew into Bangkok for Sansiri's Everyday Visionaries campaign, which launched Monocle as their joint media partner.

According to the brief speech which Brule gave to the crowd at Jam Factory's Summer House, he wil also open the Monocle Cafe that local hipsters have been waiting for in Bangkok, in line with the magazine's newest bureau.

As yet, there are no details on where the condominium will be built nor what it will look like.

Monocle And Sansiri To Team Up On Mixed-Use Development

Famous media brand Monocle is set to partner with Thai developer Sansiri for the launch of a mixed-use residential concept in Bangkok. Best known for the Monocle magazine, the brand will work with Sansiri on the project that will be revealed in 2018.

Monocle was created by former journalist Tyler Brûlé and it becomes the latest high-end brand to enter into the real estate sector. Aston Martin, Armani, and Bulgari are among the other luxury companies to now have property endavours.

The brand began as a print magazine before becoming a global luxury lifestyle brand with a presence in the online, radio, film, retail, and hospitality spheres. The deal with Sansiri will see the 2 launch bespoke residences in 12 cities across the world starting with Bangkok next year.

“We have had a long-standing relationship with Sansiri at Monocle and given our growth beyond media, it made sense to partner with a company that fit with our increasing focus on urbanism, retail and new service concepts,” says Tyler Brûlé, Editor-in-Chief and Chairman of Monocle.

Sansiri acquired a 12.5% stake in Monocle for USD6 million as the developer looked to its lifestyle and technology business holdings. It was 1 of 6 investments the company made in November to support the push.

“Our core business continues to be development and place making, but our broader focus now encompasses a radical commitment to elevating quality of life, from the homes we live in, to the way we travel, to the access we have to the freshest of produce. Sansiri, along with our partners, will be right there at the edge of the emerging future, shaping the ways that we’ll live, work, learn and play – for the better,” says Srettha Thavisin, President of Sansiri Public Company Limited.

They should turn Nimit into Monocle. Then they have an icon to start with.

They should turn Nimit into Monocle. Then they have an icon to start with.
problem, is Nimit is already under construction and mostly sold, so there is no added value to add a brand to it at this point...

Im sure they have a special plot coming for their project tough
I think it's their Asoke Project
