Buenos Aires: El Ateneo
El Ateneo is one of the most beautiful bookstore in the world. El Ateneo is a unique and fantastic bookstore where one can browse for hours. Where else can you sit in a theater box and leisurely read a volume of Borges or sip a cortado where Carlos Gardel once performed?

I wish more book stores had quiet seating areas like those in the Buenos Aires store. I know they're not libraries but I'd definitely be more inclined to buy from the same store if they provided that facility.

I worked at the Chapters that I posted images of earlier, and from my experiences, where there is seating, there is frequent lounging without buying. I'd often find bookmarks in many of the books left there by customers who intended to come back the next day and keep reading. Other times I've seen people writing down recipes out of cooking books then placing it back on the shelf. The seating areas are great and relaxing, but from a business perspective, they decrease sales.
