Starting with New York City, what are the ten largest downtowns in the U.S. (in square miles)?

In terms of geographic area, DTLA is much larger than Lower Manhattan as well as Midtown.

In terms of office space, it goes something like this:

NYC (Midtown Manhattan)
Chi
NYC (Lower Manhattan) -Will probably reclaim the #2 spot once the WTC is completed
DC
SF

This thread doesn't have much chance.

We've had dozens of threads on "downtown size" and nobody has quoted anything other than apples and oranges. Brokers? Not if you know what they do. City governments? They're not even interested.

Why don't we try ranking them by size, office space, and whatever else, since there are many factors to downtown 'size'? I think it's worthwhile, it just requires a bit of effort.

^and there's no reference to back that up either. Wikipedia, the encyclopedia that anyone can edit, isn't even close to being a primary source.
